Don’t see many Swaro scopes for sale

I frequently poke around the classified section and have noticed I don’t see many Swarovski rifle scopes for sale. Why is that? It it because they are so good nobody wants to get rid of them or because they are bad and nobody buys them? I really like the X5i but not sure I want to spend that kind of money.

I have said many times I’d rather hunt coyotes with a savage 223 than give up my Z8i. Anyone that knows me understands that’s saying a lot.

Swaro's are fantastic scopes, but are mainly a hunting optic. Most people that buy them will keep them for many years.
Today's tactical, prs shooting crowd, just have to have the latest and greatest optics on the market. That's why you see so many other Tier 1 scopes for sale.

I buy a lot of my Tier 1 scopes used, why pay $3k-$4k for a new one when you can buy one slightly used, and save $1k + off the price, and still have the same warranty.

Well, you don't see a lot of Ferrari's or Lamborghini's either....I think is has something to do with the price and the "average guy". It's not that they are so good or so bad.
What you are paying for is the key. So-called "tactical" scopes need turrets that can take the constant up and down adjusting. They are typically used in broad daylight, so glass performance is not paramount. Special use reticles add to the cost with these types.
Glass performance, specifically in lowest light conditions are what you are getting/paying for with high end German optics. Best quality optical glass and coatings are expensive.
If you are very serious about seeing your game in the last minutes of the day then yes, you might want to consider a scope with best quality glass. Put your hunt in perspective...are you in the back yard hunting deer? Might not get a shot this evening, but you might see that same buck tomorrow or next week. Are you going to Alaska for a once in a lifetime try at a big bear?? The one chance you do get will likely be the only one. I would think hard about a compromise when it comes to your scope...if you cant see it you cant shoot it.
As far as "not too many used"...I guess not too many people want to give them away after paying that kind of money. If you are serious check out Europtic in Pa. Alex is a fantastic guy to deal with!!!

Apparently you US guys pay an import tariff which makes the Swaros more expensive than they probably should be. Luckily, we don't suffer that here in New Zealand and there is for example minimal price difference between a VX5 and a Z5. As msinc says, it's that last few minutes of dusk where the top glass shines. I've shot deer at over 300yds with my Z5 when you can't make them out at all with your naked eyesight and they're even getting hard to see through Geovids.

As noted above Swaro’s have awesome glass but they are typically designed as a hunting scope. I have three they are perfect for what I’m looking for in a hunting scope.

The X5-i is a great scope but limited to 25x and the reticle is a little thick for my likes. I use it on a ‘tactical class’ rifle at 600yd F-class target matches and it is fine in that application. It would be a great varmint rifle scope. Mine will not be for sale as it was a gift from my wife. I may be naive but I ain’t stupid:p
