I've only had one or two guns so shiny they were worth more unshot. Both acquired in trade for other stuff. And then I sold them immediately.

First, good to find if you are a shooter or a collector. Many gun folks are happy just having guns, no need to shoot them all. Sounds like you are a shooter. Doesn't mean you are going to home-bubba-machine them, and spray paint the stocks, but you want to shoot them. And that's fine.

If you want to shoot it, then my common advice is to either:
  • Do it, and do not regret it.
  • Sell it, and get a non-collectible something (maybe another similar S&W revolver that's not so rare) and lots of ammo for the money.
This is becoming more common advice in circles I run in as the import bans for scary black rifles are very old now. I have a couple myself, and know many others with quite expensive self-loading military rifles. There are many who won't shoot those because of their value, but it's really hard to justify that as we move down to the plastic and paint as the finishes over fine blueing and wood.

If you have it for an investment, then don't. Otherwise if you don't shoot it, why have it?

Really nice looking piece. Would look even better with the wood grips, but that is just me.

Great advice.
If it is just a 20-30 round itch, I'd say Don't. But if you plan on working with it, LR, SRange, IDPA, weak hand...sillywets...you get the pic, get something along that line that will be just as accurate, fun w/o the immediate Depreciation hit.
What is your purpose? Your choice, no right or wrong here, just druthers.

What Dusty said. The collector value goes down when the cylinder is spun. To mark it the way yours is I suspect it was dry fired. Shoot it. Jeff

what is the difference in value? If your thinking about how much its worth then that means youre thinking of selling it at some point right? So why not sell it now. Or just go shoot it. Who knows what tomorrow brings. I need to take my own advice on this one.

Interesting gun you have there! New enough to have the enhancement package and old enough to have a hammer mounted firing pin and no lock. Not being a pinned and recessed doesn't matter here. Already has a turn line so I wouldn't hesitate to shoot it some and enjoy it. The small loss in current value from shooting it some would be more than balanced out by the appreciation of nice N frame pre-lock guns. I say shoot it!

Unless you're going to shoot it, I'm with the sell it advisors. In the last six months, I've sold five guns I wasn't shooting and I still need to downsize. OT, I know guys who have a lot of guns they don't shoot. When they die, their heirs will take them to the local gun shop and get pennies on the dollar. Seen it too many times to be a fluke.

I shoot stuff. I have traded for stuff that was a couple years old and hadn't been fired. I either sold them immediately or shot them and then put them in the stable. Actually if you wait a few years even if you shot it you will make money (if it is a desireable gun)

Shoot it, clean it really well with like an ultra sonic cleaner, tell some sap that it’s unfired, sell it, and go buy something you’ll actually shoot.

Bam...morals? None.

That’s a joke btw...do what you want to do with it. It’s your pistol. I would probably shoot it.
