New optics for .22 rimfire?

Lonny in ID

Looking for a new .22 rimfire scope to be mounted on a Ruger 77/22 sporter.

Main shooting will be ground squirrels and starlings. Will be doing some plinking also. Very little bench work other than testing ammo and sight-in work.

For close to 20 years, I've been using a Weaver 2.5-7 rimfire scope, but it came up ill and is off being repaired.

Would like something variable in the 3-10 range around $300 or less.

Any suggestions on what is decent scope for this application? I've been out of the loop for quite some time concerning rimfire scope purchases.

Thanks.

Thank you John. I appreciate the links to product.

I was shooting my 22 yesterday when the scope went south and was thinking a fine duplex would be nice. I see the EFR has it.

Lonny, if you can find a second hand Leupold 2-7x28 or as mentioned a 3-9x33 EFR. Both are awesome and are the only scopes I know of besides the Weaver that allow for mounting in Rugers low rings without bolt clearance issues, if that matters to you.

Just bought, a New Burris, 4.5x14 side focus AO with, the MOA Cross hairs and,.. LOVE, IT ! Put it on my very accurate, Green Mtn barrelled, Ruger 10-22 ( replaced the 2x7 that was on it, as 7X wasn't, "great" past, 60 - 70 yards and had thicker, cross hairs.
Am now, hitting, Sage Rats @ 100 yards ( off Bench ) with Fed Auto Match Ammo and shootin',.. TINY 50 yard groups with, SK + and Wolf Match extra, ammo.
The cross hairs are pretty thin but, are very visable @ 100 plus yards and the Scope is nice and clear. This scope, works great from,.. as close as, 30 yards to 125 yards, so far ! Only $175 on Ebay ( if, still available at that price )

Thanks Jordan and Lefty. I hadn't even thought about a bolt a bolt clearance issue. Very helpful information. These suggestions have helped me narrow my search considerably.

VX-Freedom is a good scope for the money. Put a couple on rimfires for my grandkids. They are holding up fine.

I have a Leupold Mark 4 3-9 Duplex IMG_2610.JPG that might work $280 shipped.

A used Leupold 3-9x33 EFR should be in that price range. Parallax to <10 yards

Simply no better scope in that class unless you want widgets and doodads.

I have a Tract and a Meopta, both with BDC articles. To me the BDC reticle is very useful on 22s. After some practice I can go from 50 to 200 with no dialing.

Tract has some nice, not made in China, options for under $250 and their service is A+.
Tract Rimfire

Meopta is truly nice but the price is almost $400 now.

Also take a look at the Sightron S1 series. I don't have one but they look nice and not made in China. Here's a real deal on an S1 on Ebay.
Sightron S1
In fact good deals on Sightron can be found on Ebay.
