Remington trigger ??

We all know that Remington triggers have had their problems with claimed accidental discharges etc, so out of curiosity I took one apart. The trigger I took apart was out of a model 7. I never had an accidental discharge, but a couple of years ago I had a failure to cock situation. As i closed the bolt, the firing pin would not cock or it would just start and then release before their was enough pressure to fire the round in the chamber. I tried cleaning/flushing it out with lighter fluid but it didn't do much if anything. Recently I opened it up and all I could find was a tiny bit of surface rust around the pin holes in the side plates and a weak return spring. I feel the spring was the problem and possibly the only problem. It just wasn't enough to reset the trigger and I release my triggers when I store my rifles. Maybe Remington just had bad springs at one time?? What do you all think? I'm sure someone else has opened one up.

Those sear springs are the ones that wear out when you leave it decocked. Only way to get past that is decock the bolt and leave it hanging in the rifle. Saves safe space too. That spring is prone to get weak and i bet if you replace it and readjust the trigger with more sear engagement itll never fail. Adjusting a remington trigger thinking its a crisp br trigger causes way more issues than it solves.

Only problem I have ever had with a Remington trigger was AFTER a gunsmith worked on trigger came back from Remington. Remington just could not leave the trigger alone when replacing a barrel, wtf.

I'd contact Remington, and see if it's under recall.

At least it didn't fire when you put the safety on.

Thanks, but if it is, I'm sure they would want me to send the gun in....which would just be a headache. Besides, I don't want to add to their expenses. I replaced it with a Timney or Rifle Basix a couple of years ago. I can't remember at the moment.

One word answer JEWELL

I have a Remington 700, 30-06 that was built in 1962. That's the first year it was in production. It is without a doubt the best trigger Remington ever built. It became the basis of the law suit that forced Remington to change the design.

The claim was that the trigger connecter could separate from the trigger. If that were to happen you'd definitely get a fire on safety release.

I think a bigger problem is as the safety is being released, there is a moment where the sear is off the trigger but the trigger is not blocked. The slightest pressure on the trigger at that moment will cause the firing pin to release. Add to that how the trigger and safety operate in the same plane of motion and how easy it is to keep your hand on the grip while releasing the safety; and you have potential for an AD. And if I had a dollar for every time someone told me they never put their finger in the trigger guard until they are ready fire, then watch where their finger goes when I distract them and hand them a rifle.......

Also, way to many people adjust the old style Remmy trigger way too light.
