The Unreachables

On April 29th I ordered a die from Midway. On April 30th I was notified it had shipped. I waited a couple of days before I checked my order status. It stated the package was picked up by UPS and that it was in transit. As of today the tracking information is exactly the same. Just says check back later. At this point, I have no idea who has my package as I have been unsuccessful in finding out any more information from either Midway, UPS or the USPS. So it appears that my die is in the ozone somewhere and I can't call, email or text anybody anywhere to find out anything about it. This is no friggin' way to run an airline. This half UPS, half USPS delivery system is a mess. I send out several packages every day via USPS Priority Mail and in the last ten years I have had only one problem. Please, just put my stuff in a Flat Rate box, charge me the shipping and mail it. This mixing of two different delivery systems to supposedly save a couple bucks is a recipe for disaster and a great way to lose business. Fourteen days to get one reloading die (which I still don't have) from Columbia, MO to Dallas, TX is unacceptable in any scenario. I could have walked up there and picked it up by now and I'm an old man. I wouldn't be so ticked about this if I could talk to a warm body somewhere who would simply say I'm sorry for the delay but rest assured we will get it to you ASAP. Not happening because they're not taking any phone calls. All you can talk to is a robot who sends you right back to where you started. I'm dizzy!

So, how many others on this forum have experienced or are going through the same thing? Just curious. Sorry for the rant.

Mike,
Sorry to hear about this issue with shipping and I know the frustration, as I had a package to my gunsmith delayed recently and spent a looong time on hold listening to elevator music trying to get a status. I think they make that music irritable on purpose so people just hang up! I was close a couple times.

Anyway, in the past I have just ordered another item and when the lost one arrives, I refused to take it. If unopened USPS will take it and ship it back for free. My credit card company has always stood behind me in any issues that I have had. It usually gets things resolved much easier than just waiting.

Good luck,
Richard

My last Midway order was very fast. Showed up in less than 48 hours. However I did have a recent order with Grafs that was just stuck in transit for over a week. A lady at Grafs looked up my order, called FedEx and got the ball rolling again. Great service.
Seems like Midway should be able to help you.

Surepost: UPS takes a container of packages to the P.O. on a pallet. It sits there until a postal employee opens it and distributes the contents. The only way to avoid this is to alter Midway's shipping when you are checking out. Their default and cheapest is usually surepost.

I agree. ‘UPS Surepost’ is the worst. Takes longer than most services and while not in this arena, the only time in recent past I’ve had damaged products was while an item was shipped with surepost. I think the sheer amount of time the item is in transit adds to its chances of getting lost or damaged. I always upgrade now if given the chance. The problem is lots of companies don’t even understand what they are using and just call it UPS so consumers aren’t always made aware of what the service actually is.

All of the reputable common carriers are being overloaded right now because these are not normal times, so deliveries are an order of one month later than usual.

As for midwayusa, they are a great vendor. I ordered an expensive 243 wwsm match die set from them and though the tracking number showed that it was delivered, I hadn't seen it. Waited a week and them emailed midway and they issued me a prompt refund on my word only. Several weeks later, the die actually arrived, so I emailed them again saying to go ahead and reinstate the charges. No muss, no fuss. Their customer service has been excellent for me.

I too despise the UPS Surepost delivery method. They show it as delivered when it isn't. Sometimes it won't fit in a mailbox lockbox or the lock boxes are full, the Post Office driver won't bother to even bring it to my door. However, the item shows as delivered.

On anything I really care about I won't let them use Surepost. This has been going on way before COVID

I had a powder shipment delivered by UPS. It got to Tacoma (18 miles from me) on 5/1. I finally got it 5/12. During the wait for my powder I phoned UPS. 37 minutes of elevator music, I finally get through to a live body. Oh, goodie, I can barely understand this guy's version of English. I finally get my point across, I think, the guy says "you need to file your complaint online.". I was gonna buy a new phone anyway.

I recently tried to order a CZ 457 rifle from Midway after nearly 2 weeks with no shipping updates I got on chat with them and sent an email to Matt the president it was a nasty gram complaining a lot I had the rifle two days later at my FFL unfortunately I went up there and it was the wrong rifle and a cheaper version to boot I’m still waiting on my refund I bought one elsewhere but I’m waiting for the completion of this transaction before I really describe Everything that went on

I hate when they send stuff UPS sure post. They are going to take it to my local PO anyhow, hell just drop it in the mail. I suspect they get a deal from OOPS.
I have had the same thing happened many times and what really gets me my post office is less than a quarter-mile from my UPS store and mailbox

The only way around it that I know is to pay for UPS ground. I typically wait til I have several items that I need, then place my order. The UPS ground upcharge is about 5$. To me , it’s worth the money to just avoid the aggravation. I prefer to flat out waste my time rather than worry about where my freaking order is, so I pay the extra. What chafes my butt is when I get an email on Sunday that my order shipped. And UPS sends me a text late Monday afternoon informing me that they have my package. It’s really all a scam.

I had numerous problems with this situation when I lived at Yuma Proving Ground, AZ. The USPS does not deliver to the houses there. The vendor would ship the item UPS like I asked for, and send it to the Yuma post office for delivery. They take one look at the zip and return it to the vendor, because they cannot deliver it. I was fit to bite the heads off of nails more than once when I was there! Call the vendor and they say 'well did you call the PO to see if they are holding it for you?' They don't 'hold' undeliverable packages; they return them.

Reading these horror stories makes me wonder if I'm just lucky , or what ? Ordered a RCBS Three way Trimmer from Midway , a couple weeks ago , and it was delivered on the date promised . And in the mailbox , too . Guess it was one of those combined shipments , cause it took eight days to get to Phoenix . Could have rode my Goldwing up there and back faster , though .

I just had a stock ship from Dallas April 27 and it just arrived Tuesday May 12....
It was supposed to be, and I paid for 3 day priority mail...o_O

Shipping always seems a bit hit or miss. A couple years ago an order for 8 pounds of powder from Kentucky (about 250 miles from me) made it to the delivery center within 20 miles of me and then made two complete laps around western USA, with a four day stay in Vegas (gambling, I assume) before finally arriving. I figured it at about 2,500 miles by the time it got here over a month after the order was shipped. UPS tracking was useless and acted like it was my fault!

I had place a recent order with Midway. While it took about 3 weeks to receive it they did tell me this in advance when to expect the order. It arrived on the date they stated. Never had a problem with Midway.
