Bc'z rattlecan paint job ?

I hope to do this project with Bc'z s generous help. If it wasn't for you members neither one of us would be doing this. Bc's is a pro helping a novice . We hope you find this post usefull.

The reasons we are doing a ''rattlecan'' paint job is you don't have to buy large quantity's of product, there is much less cleanup and I don't know how to apply paint with a gun.

We will order the paint etc tomorrow and keep a running production log, complete with pictures as soon as possible.

I think I'm going to try that saran wrap thing with some camo paints. I got all inspired with your work Bc'zView attachment 1175749 and started on this some time back. Was actually doing it for my wife who had just been diagnosed with cancer. ER visits, chemo, and radiation treatments took the joy out of it and six weeks ago she passed on. Looking at this, I feel an inspiration returning and look forward to finishing. She is no longer here on earth but watches over me and that purple is still her favorite color. Thanks guys for the needed motivation.

I just talked to Ian Kelbly. This rifle will have a new dual port Panda action and the bolt will have a G.T. rebuild . It will also have a new 6BRA Krieger HV. 8T barrel with a Alex Wheeler 6BRA chamber job. The barrel will sport a Harrell recoil reducer / tuner.

2-2k primer
2-2k glamour clear
1- black
1- custom mixed 80%coarse white pearl, with 20% fine aluminum
1- laser red tint coat, basically candy.
Ordered through Industrial Finishes.

I opened up the barrel channel using 40 grit wrapped around a socket. Now to remove the old paint from the stock. I hope my paint will be here soon.


I checked with #Kelbly today and they are doing the new dual port action.
I'm excited. I must admit I was getting a little depressed this spring, the economy being down the way it is. But now not so much.

I start with 80 grit, then final block with 150-180 grit.
After primer I'll block that with the grit I finished with then chase that down with 320-400grit for final prime.

Qs Yes, how much primer before black, light coats? If there is a chance the primer will do something odd will this be the time? Will the primer look as smooth as a finish coat?

3 to 4 coats of the 2k epoxy primer let dry a couple days. You can test to see if ready by sanding a spot. If it powders up it's ready, if it balls up on the paper it's not. Primer will not lay as smooth as base color or clear.
You will be doing a marble which creates texture also. After stock has been cleared it will end to be wet sanded with 800 grit to smooth it out, then the next application of clear will give you the finish your after.

Spray stock black 1st, let sit a couple hours with good airflow.
Next take saran wrap and lay flat and spray it silver. Wrap stock with wet saran wrap rub it down but dont worry about air pockets. View attachment 1175606you have to work fast!
Now go to a candy coat or lightly fog another color.

He means your not laying down an overlapping coat which would cover your marble effect. Fogging on another color is a dryer application, more distance. Essentially creating a Fog application that allows the underlying color show through. Practice first.

Your not after saturation of the next color .
You want the erratic paternity of the marble to be dominate, you could also blend another color on to the black before doing marble.

Some paints aren't compatible, different brands might get fish eye or the dreaded ''crinkle'' . That's why I had Bc'z order my paint for me.
