Bartlein Barrels introduces Carbon Fiber barrels!

Bartlein Barrels is proud to introduce their new line of Carbon Fiber wrapped barrels.
We will start off with 3 contours, the #4 Bull Sporter, #13 Rem Varmint, and the #14 M24/M40.
Lengths will be 20", 22", 24" and 26" finished lengths in any twist you like including Gain and Left Hand twists.
And just to make it a little more interesting--4 Colors, Black, Red, Green, and White(black marble).

Mark,

I am a Bartlein fan... you ruined me on ever owning any modern rifle with a factory barrel. There are a couple of established carbon barrel makers and based on reviews/feedback there is a trade-off between the benefit of weight savings and accuracy. Is there anything in your design or manufacturing process that is unique or distinguishes it from other manufacturers? What should our expectations be when comparing a Bartlein Carbon Wrapped barrel to a Bartlein SS barrel?

Are there any future plans to offer this for an AR10 profile?

Thanks

For the time being, AR barrels are on the back burner, but we will be looking at them in the future, hopefully the near future.

You should not see any difference in the performance between our Steel or Carbon Fiber barrels.
In testing, we and other folks involved found no difference.
George Gardner from GA Precision has a good video on his website that addresses this very well.

At the very least chip in for the Gold Banner

I’m late to the party... but what are the pros/cons for carbon wrapped barrels?

This has been discussed at length in other threads, but anyway . . . here's my synopsis,

Pros: Reduces weight (great for a hunting rifle); looks cool

Cons: Price; Reduces weight (less weight increases recoil); Faster barrel wear when shooting a lot of rounds at a time
due to heat retention within the carbon wrap (an arguable point since little research has been done on this).

Reactions: rwj
Does it weigh less though? If you were to make barrels of equal length and weight with the required contours to achieve this, is the carbon fiber barrel stiffer? Could throw dimpling or fluting into the mix.

Con: It's going to cost you a lot more if you screw up chambering, LOL

Is there a weight chart for the barrels so we can see the weight advantages ? Possibly a contour chart also ?

Weight has its own effect on accuracy because it relates to how recoil forces hit the action and deflect it. All else being equal, a heavier barrel deflects the action less and transmits less vibration. See "rifle accuracy facts" book for details.

Carbon fiber has a very strong vibration dampening effect. I would think a CF wrapped barrel of equal weight will have superior vibration dampening to an unwrapped barrel of equal weight.
