James Phillips brought the General Lee to the DOME Saturday. We were late getting started and only had time to shoot the 800 yard line. Maybe this week James can make it back over and we will stretch out to the 2100 line. He is looking for more MOA rings now.
He shot 22 Dasher, 6 BRAI, and 300 WSM.

Beautiful rifles.

Does the plate along the top of the "General Lee" hold the assembly together instead of bolts coming up from the bottom. Never seen a config like this before.

Thanks in advance for the education.

Yes. It is called a barrel block. The action is free floated and no stress.
Barrel Blocks are used with heavy, no taper barrels.
Block unbolts into two halves. Bottom half is bolted to the stock.

Thank you. Reverse of what I have been taught regarding having the barrel to be free floating. Maybe it has little affect on the barrel harmonics because it is a heavy no taper barrel. Is this common in Benchrest?

Not common. But you will usually see at least one at a IBS 600 or 1000 match. Mostly in heavy class. Sam Hall and Jason Walker have used barrel blocks to win championships in their heavy. Sam's rifle was Black Max which he sold to Jason Walker and then Jason won a 600 Nationals with the rifle his self. Sally and Jim Bauer shoot a beautiful Stars And Stripes heavy.
