SAVAGE LONG ACTION BUILD

Hi guys. i have a savage long action sitting here that im wanting to build a wildcat off of.
it was a 7mm rem mag at one time. so it has the mag bolt face already on it.
however i dont need that big of a cartrige anymore. and was wanting to build a wildcat 6mm out of it. what would you suggest that i could build to keep the mag bolt head but in 6mm ? and still take advantage out of the long action ? really wanting something will hardly any recoil

Sell the magnum long action and then pick up a short action with a 223 bolt head and build a 6x45. Accurate as all hell and little to no recoil.
Opinion worth what it cost.

Guessing about 700 round barrel life...

If it were me, i'd do one of the following.
7mm LRM
7MM Dakota
28 Nosler
7mm-350 Rem Mag.

The last one would put you squarely in wildcat teritory.

I would change the bolt head. Then you could go with any of the 6mm’s you would like.

I have done a bunch of 257 stw back when i tried to do 25cal stuff. A 6stw would be real good

Probably load development, shoot match, rebarrel and repeat.

I second this, a 6mm Rem ackley is at home in a long action and about as much case as you need for a hot 6mm

If i was still willing to use a belted magnum case it would only be for hunting anyway. It would last a lifetime just like the 25stw does- but yes one and done if you shot a match

Buy a new bolt head and improve your options.
Not a wildcat, but something different - 6.5 Swede.
It was the first barrel I spun on my Savage 110. Used it for 600 yard benchrest for a few years, then switched to a Dasher.
The Swede is a great long range cartridge, and Lapua brass is available.

if you must keep that magnum bolt face id neck 7 saum down to 6. best idea to me though is the above 6mm Rem or better yet 6.5 swede.. i dont know if you could get a savage bolthead for 6.5 swede though if not you could go with 260 Rem, but Ahhhhhhhhhh not a 6.5 Creed

you can get savage bolt heads to.. dont know whats available. Is that a large shank action?
