why go out to the range these days...

Many are being closed for the duration.
Ammunition prices are going thru the roof.

Why would you want to burn up all of your cheap practice ammunition? So you can pay 2-5 times as much per round to replace it...? Or worse, not be able to.

Stay home, it's safer; and cheaper.

Finishing up the 1st firing on some WSM brass then some load development hopefully for Williamsport. Double checked that the SHTF guns are 100% cleaned and dialed in. I am sure I will be playing with the Rail over the Ezell flags, enjoying a cigar on the nice days. ..........If nothing else, you should at least plink with a rimfire purely for your mental health while we weather this shit storm............God Bless

Regards
Rick

I think
i got alot of ammo/components to use up before the bug gets me:) i dont know if they have closed my range or not but i need to find out.

I am going on vacation for a week or so. Got an email saying my local club is closing until further notice. So any load development is on hold.

When I arrive at the range the feeling of awe and the excitement of seeing my friends is something I would miss, not to mention also the freedom of doing something totally personal and anxiety releasing. Often I am testing some aspect of a load or new item, scope etc. and if after all my life of doing this it would be taken away I don't think anything could replace it or make me as happy.

why not go out to the range? It's outdoors, I'm 6 (or more) feet away from anyone, and I get a respite from the unending barrage of news. And isn't the purpose of properly preparing (eg, having adequate inventory of reloading components) for an eventuality such as this so that we can continue our hobby uninterrupted?

I feel fortunate that my three hobbies automatically include distance from others
  • Shooting
  • Reloading
  • Cycling
I was caught flat-footed in 2012. That was the motivation to get into reloading and be prepared. Going to the range is more therapeutic now than when things are normal!

I'm going Sunday mainly to shoot this. Weather man says it's going to be 70°, have a bunch of 125 gr cast bullets loaded plus I just need the therapy. I've had this a week and have yet to shoot it. Been raining. Probably take the old Ruger flat top too. Have new targets from Field and Cave to break in. What more could you ask for. 20200313_192134.jpg

"Shooting is a perishable skill"...Jack Reacher.

My range days will include practice with 22LR, testing my competition ammo for F-class, sighting in the scopes I have moved or replaced, and getting a few more guns and rifles out of the safe.

Shooting is one of the few things that works well with social distancing practices especially when the weather is cooperating. Feels like I am getting more out of my range membership as well.

Ammo prices were the reason I started reloading 20 years ago.
Before the run on ammo, 300WM rounds were as high as $3 each! I'm took cheap to pay that.

Reloading competition ammo isn't necessarily cheap but it sure can be accurate.
It's the only way to get rounds for my custom 6SLR.

If you can't go to your range because it is closed, consider making a BB/Pellet trap and shooting at home.
You can even reuse the BBs if you want.
I find pulling a trigger is always more fun than yard work.

Because my wife strongly suggested that I needed to get out of the house if my marriage is going to make it through a month of quarantine lockdown... I had a similar thought while having a cup of coffee with the kids running amuck
