Fish & Game Dept. Funds ????

I'm wondering what might happen to P&W income from hunters due to the Corona Virus.

I guess the scare will be on until we see just how bad the virus is going to effect the country. Being as the draw hunt timelines will pass in the next few months, hunters may be a bit nervous on spending points on tags.

My gut tells me that most hunters will still buy tags and hunt as if nothing was gonna happen in the great outdoors.

But I still think folks from all over the country will be showing up in the Rockies, possibly still extending the virus.

Just Wondering?

Going to the rockies will be like a self quarantine- you wont be in a crowd hopefully
Maybe so, but there is a lot of contact with others prior to arriving at your pristine mountain hideaway. If you fly, there will be plenty of contact with others. If you drive,as I do, there's still contact when buying fuel and groceries.

There is a lot of cancelling, going on now, of all kinds of sporting events and so on, but I don't see that including hunting, for now.

My question is "Will enough hunters skip going on out of state hunting trips that it will effect F&G departments budgets this year?"

Prices for non-resident big game tags have been escalating and if income to P&Ws falls short this year, what will the prices look like next year?

I will still put in for draws in 3 states, but have talked to others who are not sure and some who are only buying preference points.

As a Colorado resident I don't have nearly as much skin in the game, and plan to put in for deer and elk tags. If hunting is closed by law I am sure the tag holders will get a refund. My guess is revenue will take a hit, and there may be an extension of the application deadline if things start to turn around. Stay tuned.

I'm trying to fly to go on a goat hunt starting Sunday. It's up in the air whether or not work is gonna let me go because of the virus. They are not allowing us to fly through Seattle, San Fran or New York. They keep hinting that it may come to pass where we can't fly anywhere!

I am treating this virus just like I do any other and/or the common cold, just watch around groups, use good hygiene and wash the hands well and often. Will go to my normal hunting sites and hunt and fish as usual.

My son has a August Caribou hunt in the Artic Circle. Probably little chance of encounter with virus there, but getting there and back home looks to be chancy.

Just great I’m going to Colorado in a month or two
