Who is the member who does bolt work?

I recently purchased a new rifle and it has an unusually heavy bolt lift and closing.

There is a forum member who does bolt work but I don’t remember his name exactly. I think his name is something like “Dans40x”?

Any help appreciated thanks.

If that is the man and I think it is, he is in Alasky. :p I think a bud used him and spoke highly.

If Butch uses him that's all one needs to say. Just my two cents. Tommy Mc.

I'll give Ben Chappel a shout out as well. He's on this forum as "grimstod". Bolt bushing/firing pins, lift kits, and truing. He's done mine and several other club members with excellent service. Always good to have options.

Just Incase anyone is wondering the rifle is a Christensen arms mesa. I have pulled the firing pin cleaned and relubed. Also cleaned lug recess on the action. This helped to smooth things out but the bolt lift is still quite heavy.

My son was wanting to try a CA Ridgeline 280 a.i. when they were first available. Of course he sent it to me for load work up.

I had to stand up and hold it down in the bags to cycle the
bolt. After fighting it all day I was ready to send it back to CA. After I cooled down, I took it home and checked everything.

When I striped the bolt, I found the spring was super heavy and replaced with a standard 700 spring. There was a great difference in bolt lift. Lapped the lugs and relubed.Problem solved.

That’s sounds like it could be the problem. I can feel the spring loading as I lift the bolt. I’m not one to mess with factory specs but in this case I might.

The CA spring was 30# I found out later. I think the 700 springs are 18-20#, but could be wrong.
