Best small rifle primer for 6br

I'm really hoping that everyone agrees. LOL
What primer do you like for the lighter bullets (68g)
in the straight 6br?
205m, BR4, Rem. 7 1/2 or another.

A couple years ago I did a mini test of 5 different primers in a 6ppc. Just 5 shots each. Same load, same bullet, just different primer. Primers were CCI 400, BR4, Win SRP, Fed 205 and 205 match. Not much difference in groups but the CCI 400's gave the best ES and Sd. Not enough difference in velocity to amount to anything either. Personally I shoot Federals, both reg and match. But don't mix them.

I agree with SPJ. You can't just say this or that primer will work the best without putting them to a test. I use Federal 205 and M's in all my 30BR's because they work better than anything else that I tried. I normally use H4198 ninety five percent of the time and N130 for the other 5 percent. The Federals work better in all of the barrels that I have tried them in with those 2 powders with the powder charge that I use. I used the same primer in my Jaguar2, (modified 30x47) and they didn't work worth a beans. I use 44 grains of N133 and I had a real hard time getting any decent groups. I tried a BR4 and that was the ticket. The groups were pretty amazing just by switching to those BR4's. I have tried BR4's in my 30BR's and they did the opposite of what they did in my Jaguar 2. So get yourself as many different primers and test away.

;)I personaly use rem7.5 and 32.5 grains of 8208xbr powder with a 55 grain nosler varmigedon bulletin my savage target action with a Jim Hart barrel and a stock from sharpshooters supply in ohio sporting a timney savage drop in triger set at 2 onces.Dont load that load in your gun of course without working it up but in my gun it is prarie dog medicine. As they say where I come from that's my red mist load. Just saying.

Last spring after tuning my 6ppc and 2 6brx's I was unsatisfied with their ES. Although all 3 shot consistant 3 shot groups in the zeros and ones I was unhappy wish ES in the teens. Played with BR4, 450, Wolf, 7 1/2, 200 no improvement. As a last resort I bought Fed 250, no improvement. I bought some 250M. ES on all 3 dropped to low of1 with a high of 5. All primers tested were weighed and sorted. So for me Fed 250 Match was the winner 3 our of 3. Have a friend with several very accurate 6BRAs and 6PPC. He then repeated what I did and got the same results. I checked all 3 during the season and low ES continued.

did you try weight sorted 205's ?
not sure what you said

I repeat.....All primers were weighed and sorted. This does not mean that the results I found will be the answer for you. What you should take from my post is you need to test for yourself and be sure to include the 205m in your test. Never just grab on to what others did but try it out and see wht results you get for your application.

Agree! I got same results others did by doing same testing....CCI450 came out on top. I can shoot against PPC's, BR'S, or 6.5 x 47 and there is no telling what may show up in the way of primers, bullets, or barrels. I shoot with guys who go to the Super Shoots and a couple that have been world champions....some may shoot Wolf, some 205m, some 450's, and some 7.5....whatever works with your combination. I've shot everything thats been mentioned in BR's through the years. My PPC shoots best with Wolf.....BR with 450.....6.5 x 47 with 450, 6.5 x 284 with CCI200, 7 saum with S/B. Others have their combinations and thats cool!

Cci450 will shoot just as small and smaller spreads than the 205m at a lot less money in 6br, 6bra, 223 and 223a.

I have both... bought both during the Hillary panic. My testing shows they shoot nearly identical on the paper but the 205m is softer and can pierce. And the 450 is a bunch cheaper.
