Cheap additive for corn cob media?

Is that the red stuff? That's jeweller's rouge; used (in a different form) to dress polishing wheels to shine up bracelets and rings and stuff. Basically really finely ground rust particles. Jewellers use it mixed with tallow.
No. This is a packet of fine white powder that you mix with the walnut media. It cleans really well but you have to check every primer hole after using it. Just look through it or press a small pinch through to check. You should do that with any cleaning media.

no one in the once fired brass world uses walnut, they all use fine ground corncob. cheaper and it works.
Opposite assessment here. Rouge bearing nutshell works and lasts far better then does corncob or treated green corncob for me.
Haven't had to buy any replacement in likely +10-years, but see it's (Lyman) only $19 for 12-lbs at SWFA:

again no commercial brass recycler would use pins nor walnut.
think what you want, believe what you want, do what you want.
there is a single commercial brass recycler that uses a wet method, but we are talking tons of brass not hundreds of cases.

I've tried both and it works for me. Some brands of the walnut aren't very good. Don't know if it's the size? The RCBS circulates very well, other's doesn't and seem to produce a lot of dust. The only problem is at least half the cases will have a piece stuck in the primer hole.

All the once fired brass I've bought in the past were cleaned with steel pins and were clean inside.

Pins working well for me but I only use a handful, maybe less than 1/2 pound and around 1-1/2 hours. Still very clean but not too hard on the brass and much easier to separate the pins when there’s not so many.

I "always" understood that Brasso contains ammonia and it can cause season cracking in brass (a really bad thing that you want to avoid).

I use either Nufinish or Mothers Brazilian Carnauba cleaner wax. I like the smell and dispenser top of the Mothers better, but the Nufinish is lower viscosity and mixes in quicker with your media. But I only use the 20-40 sieve size corncob which is very small grit size (but it never gets caught in the flash hole).
I’m using pins with the Frankford blue cleaning solution. Anybody have a good cheaper alternative than that stuff?

NOTHING but the cob media. The brass didn't come from the factory with anything on it so why add anything else. CLEAN media will polish the brass so it looks like new.

People asked me why? Because the brass came out looking nicer, I couldn't get it shine like I wanted with corncob, so went back to what I had no problem getting the shine with. It may have been the brand that I picked up, I don't know, but the corncob that I had, was leaving a dull finish. It was the only consideration for going back to walnut other than I got a 40 pound bag of walnut for use in blast cabinets for $22, Which will last until this 62 year old body wears out. If it works, I have no complaints.

If you want Harbor Freight stuff, I have a bunch I will give you for free!! Bought the fine stuff and almost had to wear a mask because of the dust. Ya it is cheep, butt....

The polish mom used to use on her Formica, Jubilee nothing smells like it and Dillon polish smells exactly the same. We used to use it in the cabinet shop for a final cleanup before installing.
