First threading attempt

Nice first attempt.

I am no expert, but have done my share of lathe threading (Non-firearm). Enlarging your image of the threads, you are getting some chatter. Ensure that everything is tight, including your bed and slides, also you may want to shorten up on the tool protrusion from the post. Also, try different speeds. What type of cutter are you using? Some carbide tips are designed to be run faster than others and if run slower, will cause issues with the quality. If you don't have the confidence to run faster to match the tip, then consider High Speed Tool Steel (HSS). It will allow you to get good quality at the lower speeds.

All in all, a very good first run. What type of material are you using for your barrel stand in?

i started threading by buying a bunch of CRS drops from my local suppliers and just experimenting with different tools, speeds, methods, etc. Also had guys on my FB page giving me advice, etc. Worked great and was cutting good threads pretty quickly. and no fear of messing up anything

Thankfully, my lathe likes to cut in reverse and it makes it easy to cut at high speed for a really nice thread without worrying about crashing it by overshooting your "chicken groove" and considering my lathe likes to hang out and not release the feed lever, its another bonus.

Thanks, the cutter was HSS. I will try some different speeds along the way and check my setup for rigidity.
I'm using stainless steel prop shafts 1 1/4" from my scrap pile.

I'm using 1 1/4" stainless prop shafts to practice on. I also haven't tried the reverse method yet...Thanks
