Do I have a bullet problem

I was at the range the other day testing new 6Dasher and had the following results. I was shooting at 600 yds with sling and using a ShotMarker at target and Labradar at the line.

1. ES@ line was 4.62fps & SD was 1.46fps
2. ES @ target was 55fps & SD was 13.7fps
3. Group was 7.65"
4. Score was 200-16x
5. Bullets were B105 Hy, pointed

Can the ES really be that much different, worse, at the target than at the muzzle. Is it the unsorted bullets?

Ed

When our club started using the Shotmarker for our 600 F-class stuff we were told to take the velocity, ES, and SD with a grain of salt. It seems reasonable some differences in the bullets would translate to higher ES and SD at 600 but I don't know if it would be as much as you saw just from the bullets.

The group size and shape is the only thing I worry about. Was the group vertical or horizontal and what was the conditions like? A good Dasher at 600 in decent conditions should easily shoot 3 inches. It could be lots of things that caused the group to be big. I would repeat with unpointed bullets and see if it repeats or gets better. Some tend to overpoint and that can kill accuracy. Matt

Matt,
I was shooting with a sling and a 3" group would be tough holding the gun. I will be testing with different bullets and unpointed.

What would be a normal difference between line and 600?

Short answer is No. I think shotMarker had a hiccup!

Do you think that a device designed to acoustically locate the flight path of a bullet is capable of velocity determination to the same degree of accuracy and precision as a radar-based system specifically designed to measure projectile velocity?

4.62 fps ES from a 20 shot string ??? that's gotta be a record !

The best ammo I can make struggles to get single digit ES from a 10 shot string.

Dont forget, velocity at the target is including the effects of the consistency (or lack there of) in the BC of the bullet, AND the condition in which you shot. A varying head or tail wind of any kind (whether you saw it or not) will affect the bullets velocity at the target. The further out you go, the more chances there are for changes to be seen.

Edit: side winds affect this as well.

Most importantly. What did the target look like? Vertically strung ? Shotgun ? Post the pic

6" X-Ring and 12" 10 ring

Oh that changes things. What was the condition like? Have you done any testing at 100 yards? I find if a dasher or other 6mm can hold around a .15” 3 shot group and repeat that a couple times at 100 it will do 3-4” at 600 for 20 and be competitive in f class if that’s your goal.

Conditions were a light 5-6 mph wind from 6 to 9 o'clock. Have not tested at 100 yds because I am a BAD bench shooter.

He is a sling shooter not f class if i read his first post right. Their targets are bigger than ours. That still is a great score.

It's bad when you don't register what you read. I read his post and went (stupid)but that's normal for me. Never have shot sling. Thanks for the info.
