My original post was getting a bit ugly so I decided a new post instead of a follow up there.
I did it. I called a spade a spade to the principle and superintendent, as well as Gunner. I explained what happened, the attempt to cover it, and about placing the kids in the middle. I backed it up with redacted text messages, (I took the names out so the kids weren't called out.) So basically I started a sh! + storm. That got the ball rolling and some unexpected results.
On day 2 of heavy perception Gunner set the team down. He explained that what he did was wrong. He never intended for the targets in question to be sent with the other targets and scored. He saw it as more practice in a "pressure" situation for the other members in their weakest position. It shouldn't have counted, and in hind sight he shouldn't have done it. When the scores posted and he saw the targets were sent it put him on the defensive. Over the Thanksgiving break he kept thinking about it and felt that score couldn't be counted. Going by the scores self reported by New Albany's coach, (Master Guns and Gunner are friends) he thought our team lost by 1 pt. However when the official scores came out and he removed the target in question, John's team still won by one point. Gunner took responsibility for telling everyone to lie about why they weren't going, and stated this won't happen again.
So as it stands today John and his team are going to Navy Nationals. I told John not to hold his breath as a lot of time left till they go, but at least they qualified. I think if gunner balked about going enough crap fell he would be held accountable, but I just have a sneaky suspicion. Call it a moms intuition. If that happens I think I ask the superintendent to let New Albany take him, and I'll go as his cheparone. I look at that if it happens.
So as of today good won. John wasn't singled out for refusing to lie, and hopefully he can just work on shooting.
Thanks guys. Sometimes I'm just unsure if I should let the manure rain down, or fall in line. You all help by being my measuring stick.
Thanks Paula.
