John goes to college update

I haven't said much about John, hoping I'd have good news to share, but every time I thought this is it, something would come up. He spent his first year at Akron shooting on the club team. The team did great sweeping the ASSA Collegiate Club Championship, and John made 2nd team all star in Air, 1st team all star in Smallbore, and 1st all star combined. However Akron didn't pick him up for their NCAA team. John put out some feelers and was surprised several schools wanted him. N. Georgia, and Jacksonville State both gave great offers, but neither had his degree, (aviation). Ohio State has his degree, but is incredible difficult to be admitted. Quite a difficult position to be in.

John carried a 3.72 GPA so he decided to apply to Ohio State knowing he'd have to take out some serious student loans. Not only was he accepted, but he was also accepted to the aviation engineering school, his dream. Coach Tanoue was great working with, but he had no money left to go towards John, but he had a place on the team. So John is leaving Akron s Club team to be a Decision I NCAA athlete at The Ohio State University.

So I'm officially changing my UK t-shirts that I've lived in my entire life to become an Ohio State Buckeye mom. You guys realize that your support, and help has taken a kid from the farm to the big house. People don't think giving someone a little help is a big thing, but by supporting John you all gave him the chance for his gift to shine. He never would have gotten here without you all. Thanks again. I look forward to the next couple years, even if I have to wear red.

Sincerely
Paula

That's a nice story. You must be very proud of him.

PS I see you are in Indiana. Was Purdue ever in play? A great aeronautical school, possibly the best. Good enough for Neil Armstrong, anyway. Perhaps no rifle team.

Sorry no rifle team. His degree will be in aviation engineering professional pilot. He is a flyboy at heart.

It's so nice to hear stories like this - good job. Wish him the best in both his academic and sports endeavors.

I shot some three-position small bore rifle at Penn State over 50 years ago. I wasn't great at it, but I like it a lot. When I got out of college and was drafted into the Army, I found my "calling", competitive pistol shooting which I became quite good at and continued in civilian life competing in NRA sponsored competition.
