Dasher resizing help

Just got a new barrel for my Dasher. Been using the same brass in previous barrels for a while now with no issues. The barrel I got came with 200pcs of once fired hydroformed brass. My problem is that all this brass fits and feeds fine, but not one piece of the nearly 700pcs I already have will extract worth a darn. Just ahead of the extraction groove my old brass measures .271, the newer brass measures .269. I colored a couple of pieces of the old brass and ran it into the chamber and got a solid ring rubbed off in that area. I ran a piece of junk brass all the way into my Whidden die and it still didnt help that area, it did however bump the shoulder .02!

I feel like I know what the problem is, I just dont know how to fix it. A body die seem like a good solution but I'm afraid itll bump my shoulders back to far. Sorry for the long post but figured I'd try and give everything. The barrel was done by PVA as was the barrel that it replaced. Standard no turn neck with a 104 freebore. I'd appreciate any feedback you can provide.

I used a .308 body die to size the base of some 6br brass. It doesn't touch the shoulders. It should work on the Dasher also. Be aware that when you use a body die to reduce the cartridge base diameter you will also move the shoulder forward and increase the overall length of the brass. You will need to size and bump the shoulders with your Dasher die and maybe trim the brass.

Same reamer for all barrels? Maybe the reamer for the new barrel is spec’d tighter at the base?

Do you think one of Paul’s “ring dies” would help?

It’s a straight thru design that doesn’t touch anything at the shoulders. It’s more narrow at the bottom of the die, where the brass enters.

I don’t have any answers, just posing questions.

You need a ring die like the one you have the link for. It will solve the issue.

Thanks for all the help and info guys. I had never heard of a ring die until this lol. Still learning! Not sure if it was the same reamer, just the standard PVA reamer they use.

Is this something that I'm going to have to do every reload? Or will it take a while for the issue to redevelop after getting the body back in line?

It is possible to size the brass down while it’s still young. But you really need a die the will size correctly. If not your life will become miserable quickly. I would send 3 pieces of fired brass to Harrell’s Precision and have them send you a die.

Call Harrell's precision and order a D4 dasher die. If that wont fix your extraction issues, that brass is too far gone. In the future, own your own reamer and use the same smith, you should be able to use the same brass and sizing die settings across all your barrels.

Thanks again for all the help. I sent an email to pbike257. I got the reply, still debating on which way to go. I've got a 284 also, so I was kind of looking at the universal die that PVA sells.

I'm also curious how the 308 body die would work. Seems like the cheapest way to go. The PVA die I could use on both cases that I shoot the most but the bushing I need is out of stock until January. If a 308 body die would get me going I'd go that route until the bushings come back into stock.

I've got Whidden dies and I did call them today. Nothing I can do with my current die but he did say I could send in brass and they'd make me a custom die. I've looked at Harrels and Wilson also. Just trying to make a logical and financially sound decision lol

I think the Lee die has a removeable top so it provides adequate clearance. They also offer an undersized version with an even tighter base.

I know exactly what you mean, i have a T2K which was originally fitted with a 6BR tube from new. With about 3-4 firings on the brass it was showing an expansion ring right at the end of the chamber which is slightly forward of the extractor groove due to the cone shaped bolt and rear barrel face. this was with lightish loads 29 Varget with a 105 hyb. my redding type S FL bushing die did not move this ring and as you say adjusting the die only bumps the shoulder and your then in a would of pain. i never fixed the problem with that barrel but will try the 308 die when i get a chance, but check your primer pockets they maybe getting loose as min did.
