It seems to me that those who found fault with that thread, spent a lot of time reading it. I wonder why? If something offended me I would simply avoid it. No one was forced to push that mouse button. I am not pompous enough to believe that my mores should extend to everyone else.

I really enjoyed the cat. With every cat meme, all you saw was the photo. Simply scroll past it and don't even read the punchline.

I for one do not like hunting. Looking at photos of dead animals offends me. Now I realize that hunting is both necessary, for culling and it is a lot of fun for some. What am I to do. Well I'll tell you my solution. I tune it out. I do not expect everyone to respect my sensibilities. As a former Homicide Detective Sargeant, in what is the murder capital of the country, I saw enough blood and guts to last a lifetime.

I find it strange, that a forum whose members are dedicated to the preservation of the Constitution, can feel so adamant about protecting the 2nd Amendment and are ready to toss the First Amendment under the bus because it offends you. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

As for the Boss, While I am disappointed that he took down that thread, I respect his decision. Although many of us support this forum monetarily, with donations, we do not own it. That's why he is the BOSS. I further respect the adage, "it's my way, or the highway," in this case. I will not criticize his decisions.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I assume that question was rhetorical, however I feel it bears an answer from me or others who choose to answer it. It’s my constitutional right. I read the post often because I felt I needed to know what and how some people thought. I got my answer to those questions often. I was able to form an opinion of certain people. I found some people needed a trip to the woodshed when they were young. I noticed some who posted never entered into conversation on gun related subjects. In both the cases, I’m not interested in their pursuits of happiness.
I assume when you were a detective you encountered situations that offended you. Did you turn tail and run? I think and hope not.I also assume you came upon situations that relatives shouldn’t bear witness to. Did you ask them not to look at their dear loved one at that time? As a fireman in Detroit we covered accident and fire victims, some sights were gruesome and quite honestly sickening. Certain eyes didn't need to see everything. Did we infringe upon constitutional rights in those cases? I think not. I found posts that offended me and I felt weren’t fit for young eyes and so I felt it was/is my duty to report these to the Boss. Was I wrong? I think not and so I’ll repeat the process if it arises again.

I started reading it from the beginning if I missed some it wasn't very many. And yes some were vulgar which I didn't like but I knew complaining about it would only hurt the thread which I so enjoyed .A very good point brought up by the admin guy was the pictures of women causing the Forum to be reclassified to an adult site and that is unacceptable.Yet out of the 7700 or so post's I feel the good far out weighed the bad .

This might put things in perspective. If every single day for the past six months you had to spend 20 minutes cleaning up smelly trash left by neighbors in your driveway, how long would your patience last?

180x20 minutes -- that's 60 man-hours in 2019 moderating that one thread. Add to that dealing with the self-righteous protests of posters banned from the thread who angrily demanded that their posting rights be restored (so they could post more offensive pictures).

I may, at some time, lift the lock on the Humor thread ... maybe...

But for now, and through the end of the year, I am working 12 hour days, 7 days a week. And yes I will work on Christmas, and on New Year's day. What people do not realize, and can't seem to comprehend, is that I pretty much work every day of the month on this site, typically starting at 6:00 am. I also write/release 1000 stories a year in the Bulletin, do match reports, and manage dozens of advertising campaigns.

Do what you need to do BOSS. That's why you're the boss. You and I have had our differences before but as we are both adults we agreed to disagree and moved on, still friends. This is your show, you need to do what you have to and those who don't agree will have to deal with it.
Thanks for your hard work and for putting up with our bullshit.

Well again I feel compelled to say the choice to view or not to view was your decision.

When I was a cop. I always tried to keep the family from viewing the remains of the deceased but if they insisted, it was their right to do so. To physically restrain them is certainly a violation of their rights.

I also respect your right to complain. This thread, I would simply not read it.

If you think you can judge a persons character, by reading what they post. I am sure that you think I should have had many trips to the woodshed. Let me ask you, as a fireman, did you ever use or hear the term "crispy critter?" One persons humor is another's aberration. It is not up to either of us to condemn anyone, simply because we disagree, with what they find funny.

Imagine, if you will, a world, where a small despotic group, can determine what we read, write or say. There was a time in this country when fundamentalist gathered and burned books and records. Is that the way you want to live. What if your children decided to report you to the language police because you banged your finger and uttered a curse. The world of Orwell and Ayn Rand are not far from becoming a reality.

So here's a thought for you. Do not attempt to denigrate my character, and I will do the same for you.

Boss

As I am sure you know, I have the utmost respect for you and all your hard work on our behalf. As I have stated before, this is your life's work and I will always respect your decisions, even though I might disagree with them.

If the program allows, one solution would be, to make the thread private. I do not mean that it should be a no holds barred thread. Create a situation where anyone finding it offense has no recourse but ignore it.

I would dare say, that this thread was the most popular thread in the history of this site. With 7,771 posts and 280,017 reads, what percentage of complaints did you receive? Of the figure, how many individuals did you receive complaints from?

Having learned early that you don't discuss politics or religion with strangers, and you don't use language or show pictures in public that you would no do in front of your mother, I have no problem with the BOSS ending the thread.

I come to these forums to learn about guns and reloading and shooting... period... the political crap I could care less about...I know where I stand there.. and that wont change... the silly crap doesn't interest me... I see enough of that in everyday life...I do know theirs no better way to start a pissing match than to bring up politics... I prefer to ignore threads with that dialog in them... and will... this is a gun forum as far as I know... pretty new here..still kinda taking it all in... drama and pissing matches will run off more than any thing else... don't know the boss but it looks like hes the boss and has the right to police things as he sees fit... and I will respect that... if for some reason I don't like it I will move on...
