how big of an advantage (if any ?) of shooting a 250 in a 300 wm over a 215 in 300 wsm ?

I am trying to avoid that cost...retired is also limited funds.
my guess was wsm grew based on less recoil/powder same(close) bullets weigths.

I have used both and for a number of reasons the WSM is better, one of which is the accuracy. Barrel life, wider node is a couple more..

Cartridge efficiency is why the 300-WSM will inherently out preform a 300-WinMag to accuracy.
As repeatedly seen in many calibers and cartridges, any time a cartridge can achieve similar velocity with less powder (efficiency) it inherently will be more accurate, have less recoil, less barrel heat and less barrel wear, simply because burning less powder to achieve a similar performance level.

A couple other example's of cartridge efficiency gains:
- 6BR verses .243-Win
- 6.5x47L verses 260-Rem

First you will have to define proof, then deal with a bunch of scientists whos definition differs from yours . Bottom line is it takes a VERY good shooter to tell the difference between cartridges. My advice is to find someone who has set more than one agg record with more than one barrel with the wsm or wm, have them shoot a few barrels of the other and see what they say. If you cant shoot an agg record I dont think you can have an opinion on the full accuracy potential of a cartridge.

Exactly What I said. Those shooters can tell you which is better but they have to have vast experience with both. Just beware of those who have only shot one and have attachment to it. Then all you will get is an opinion.

I believe Matt Kline has proven the 300 WSM is better. - The 300 Win Mag. doesn't currently hold any 600 or 1000 yard Benchrest records.
And when more good brass choices in WSM come it will only get even better IMO.

Much better accuracy, easier to tune, brass will last longer, no belt and the throat won't move compared to a 300 Win Mag. I can shoot 1000 rounds and the throat usually only moves .003 to .005. You definitely won't say that about a 300 Win Mag. How many 300 Win Mags are shooting long range BR verses a 300 WSM? They are shooting the WSM for a reason. Matt
