Have Gun Will Travel

I need a mentor. I have what I consider top notch equipment and I am meticulous in my reloading procedures. Still, I am not satisfied with my targets. I am certain it is my shooting technique at the bench.

What I am hoping for is someone who will allow me to accompany them to the range and coach me. I live in the Rosedale area of Baltimore County, Maryland but am will to travel a reasonable distance for a chance to learn.

At 83 years old, I have no intention of becoming a competition shooter but I do want to shoot like one.

Find a good shooting range as close to you as possible there will be plenty of friendly people that are willing to show you everything they know that’s where I started out

Thurmont is not that far for me. Been there for several matches as an observer. I guess the thing for me to do is to join that range and just hope that while I am there shooting, some other benchrest shooters will be there also. Wish I still had my motorhome, I could go up there and camp all summer.

During matches, folks come from hundreds of miles away and are busy shooting and getting ready to shoot the next round. I hate to bother them and spoil their concentration, during their preparations. I am not going to give up though. Maybe I will try Manassas, Va, one time.

How far are you willing to travel ? There's usually some mighty good shooters at the bridgeville delaware matches. That shouldn't be too bad. Sometimes a little discussion could help you get on the right path.

What game are you trying to play?

Point blank?

I haven't shot over 200 yards in many years. I spend a great deal of my time shooting on the 100 yard line which is all there is near me.

Nick:
I've been shooting for 65 years. At one time, I was the top shooter in my Infantry battalion with the M-60 and M-16. I qualified initially "expert" on the M-14. Over the years, I have competed in service rifle, combat rifle and Palma. I struggle now to hold on to my skills, so I work at it every week. At least once per year I travel to a shooting school somewhere in the West. This year it was Thunder Ranch. In recent years my passion has been mid to long range precision shooting with rifles, but, in the past, I have attended Gunsite for handguns, several other schools in the Phoenix area for pistol, competed in IPSC in Prescott, etc. I have traveled to Texas, Oklahoma, Montana and Oregon for rifle training in recent years. At times, I have hired qualified shooting instructors to work with me as a coach for anywhere from hours to days at the ranges, to spot and help me rid myself of bad technique. I treat these trips as vacations and they really are pleasurable. My bottom line is you are never too old to profit from some training and especially from good coaching. Find a school in your area. Sign up and go for a day or a week. You won't regret it and I have never failed to learn something new each time I have done so. It is worth every penny. Good luck to you.

I sent a pm if you're interested in what I have to offer.
Mike
I have a house full of family today. I just slipped in to see if I had any replies. I will take you up on that offer. It will take me a day to gather some info and set up my equipment of photos. After I get everything you asked for I will give you a call.

Thanks, I really appreciate it.
Nick
