Um, Hart went to Ross Sherman in Dryden NY....Where do you think Hart went to, to learn how to make button barrels,Shooter of the year in IBS used a Douglas in his heavy gun, the heavy gun winner at Williamsport shot one a couple of years ago and he was the only one with a Douglas both were 300 WSM's.
1/4 min hunting gun accuracy at 100, you bring it out I have a range out back....... jim

When Hart first tried the button process, they had a problem with excess friction. Mr. Mike Walker of Remington told Hart of a process that he developed which included coating the bore with copper to reduce friction. Hart, as well as Shilen used this method. With modern lubricants, I believe that Hart has abandoned this method. The last time that I talked to the folks at Shilen, They were still using the copper method. Good shooting...James
How is the copper removed? Acid?

Now that the reasonably priced excellent Pacnor is gone, Douglas might be a replacement in that same league......(??)
If you liked pacnor youll love a douglas for sure. Now that the reasonably priced excellent Pacnor is gone, Douglas might be a replacement in that same league......(??)
I really don't like having to cross that bridge, especially after a catastrophic event, but we as a company, we will try an give the same services that they rendered there customer's.Now that the reasonably priced excellent Pacnor is gone, Douglas might be a replacement in that same league......(??)
I dropped you a PM with some history on Ross. Neat guy. In the BR Hall of Fame for his work with barrels and actions. early 80's if I recall correctly, he is on front of a PS holding Superior Rifle #31, his own.I never even knew about him and at that time Douglas was it in button barrel makin. Unless history was written wrong and the time frame was wrong.... jim

My first ever custom barrel on a Rem700 was a Pac-nor, smithed by Pete Pieper. My first sight-in session with the pac-nor barrel at 50 yards firing hastily constructed fouler rounds resulted in the 2nd and 3rd shots not making it onto the paper target ....so I thought. I then realized the shots were all going in one-hole! That 20cal pac-nor barrel only knows how to make 1/4" to 3/8" five-shot groups at 100 yards. (and tighter 3 shot groups) Yea, if the Douglas does nearly as well, I'd be very pleased.
