Midway USA Dogtown bullets.

Who here has had good results with the 55 gn FBHP Dogtown bullets in a 223Rem? What was your best powder tried?

IIRC, I tried some Varget with those, and got good results. Check the Nosler reloading data for specs, but it was their starting load.

What you consider good, might be different than what I do. I was about to finish off my Midway Dogtown bullets, and bought replacements from MidSouth. I wanted to compare them and did so on this target. Just gives a relative group size for 100m. Note, these are close to max loads per Hodgdon, so if you use, reduce and work up.

Thanks. Last night I loaded 5 ea with CFE223- 26.0 ,26.5,27.0, 27.5, 27.8, 28.0 Gonna go shoot them in a couple of hours to see how they do. I've been told these are Nosler bullets. Is that right? Trying with a Savage 12 with a 9 twist Criterion barrel. These bullets look as though they should be pretty deadly on coyotes too.

28.0 of CFE223 got me just under 1/2" for 5 rounds at 100 yds today. I think I'll try 1 or 2 tenths over that since they started shrinking right at book max.

Words from the dogtown bullets on MidwayUSA website:
"Dogtown bullets deliver devastating terminal performance due to their extreme expansion. Here is a real breakthrough in accurate, explosive varmint bullets. Dogtown teamed up with Nosler, one of America's leading manufacturers of premium bullets to bring you this phenomenal exclusive offer. Keep them under 4,000 feet per second and they will probably outshoot your best barrel! This is not loaded ammunition."

Paddyd you might also look at Midsouth Shooters Varmint Nightmare Xtreeme. They shoot very well for me in me .223 and .22-250. HP and soft points. RL 15 works well for me in .223 .

I too have had them come apart in flight out of a Stevens 200 .223 1/9 twist. This was when the barrel was hot.

My load for them is 25.0 gr of Benchmark.
