223 Rem with 30 or 35 degree shoulder

I did a 35* with a .222 and really like it. Old bench rest caliber.

Longer ago than I care to remember, I had the pleasure of shooting bench rest with a group of pretty fine bench rest shooters (but not against them, lol - I shot Hunter class) and I remember a couple of them shot this new oddball, a .223/35, which also turned out to be a fine bench rest cartridge, just like the .222/35.

Well guys, I know it’s been a minute seen I replied but between personal issues and our ranges being closed I completely forgot about this post. I have looked at my Rem 788 222 Rem and discovered I miss printed about the amount of freebore, it is actually 0.020” not 0.200”. Also I think the accuracy was poor due to a damaged muzzle crown. So I decided to have it fixed before I have I re-barreled to a 22 Tactical. Due to the pandemic I have not been able shoot it. If accuracy returns to gun I’ll have to reconsider re-barreling it.

I was thinking of re-barreling this gun to 22 Tactical w/ 1:12T for shooting 52gr bullets. Velocity is not a priority, looking for accuracy and longer brass life.

Right after I first posted this thread I purchased a Savage 223 1:9T. This gun shoots the SMK 69gr bullets extremely well, better then my 223 1:8T shoots 77 & 80gr bullets. I need to have this one inspected also to see what can be corrected to make a better shooter.

Or, for even more velocity than that Valkyrie thangy, check out the 22 Nosler.

Or skip all the middle ground and get the speed, precision, and quality components you want with a 22BR. But if you're stuck with a 378 bolt face then I'd go the other direction and shoot a 20cal and the 55gn Bergers.

More years ago than I like to remember, I shot hunter class BR, and paid attention to what the light and heavy varmint class guys were using. The new wildcat at that time was the .223/35, and those that shot it were pleased with the accuracy they were getting with the change.

Heavier bullets and higher Vel. possible. With IMR-8208 and Sierra 95's single-load pushing 2920 fps. Hornady 6MM 85gr are loadable to magazine length but I don't remember the Vel off the top of my head.[/QUOTE]

Care to share... I'm barely at that velocity with imr8208 and a 70gr in my18" bolt 6x45...

I'm running a 30" barrel.

Not sure about what a 18" barrel would do.

I just put together a AR-space gun with a 26" barrel, getting too much bolt swipe on that to get anywhere close to that load in the AR.
