7mm rem mag

Remington sendero SFII 168gr berger vld, 66.3 gr retumbo 20 thousandths jump. When i use more powder my groups open up. I spent allot of time working up this load. I have 3/8” one ragged hole groups at 100 yds. 1/2” or so at 200. I have not shot much farther. Should I be concerned that I am at the low end of the powder scale. I would like to be able to shoot up to 1000yds. Also what upgrades besides maybe some crown work & trigger would be advised to improve accuracy. Leuplold VXII 6-18 glass. Thank you in advance

We are shooting 70-71g in Remington brass, fed 215's in the same rifle, 3075 fps with Gentry muzzle break. Action is bedded with tuned walker trigger. Groups are in the 3/8" area for three shot groups, groups repeat. Keep the powder and copper out of the barrel.

Back in the day i bought a 7mag, 10 boxes of bullets, 5 powders, and 4 different primers. When i was done the barrel was shot out. You want to shoot 'what' at 1000 yards? Paper, go have fun. Steel, go have fun. Animals, go rethink. There are lots of things you could change to improve things depending on what you are shooting at.

If your shooting 3/8" @ 100 and 1/2" @ 200, your crown and load is fine. 168s at 2900+ is fine at 1000 yards for anything including game. Not saying you should shoot game at 1000 yds but the gun will handle the task.

Sounds like you have a good load but there is another node at the 70-71gr mark as mentioned above. The 180s also love Retumbo.

With the Remington sendero, you have a 9.125 twist barrel. Perfect for 160-168 bullets. The 180s may not quite get the full BC advantage with that barrel but stabilization should be pretty decent.
