Hornady A-tip updates?

I was wondering how the Hornady A-Tip thread suddenly became a Dodge thread, so I looked back to see how that came about. Of course, it turned out to be Dusty . I'm a Chevy guy, myself, so I don't find the Dodge discussion all that interesting. Does anyone by any chance have any updates on the original topic?...uh, wait a second, I forgot what it was about...oh yeah - it was about the Hornady A-tip bullets. Anyone have anything new on those?

Last week I bought a 2019 Ram 1500. The new model. Very nice. Ford and Chevy have some catching up to do. Had 4000 miles as a dealer demo. Lifetime power train warranty. 15,000.00 off sticker.

Friend was driving his new F-250 A-tip down the highway, took his foot off the gas to exit and that's when the engine grenaded. Apparently a double charge, as it blew the heads off and bottom metal all to pieces. Warranty would not cover it, and Insurance said total loss due to brief fire from the muzzle blast, but wasn't their problem as it was a warranty issue with Remington. Not sure how he got it all sorted out, it's back to grouping in the low 3's at 100 mph, so why not?

Oh yea, loaded up about 200 of the 135 gr A-Tips for a shooting buddy. Look promising with H4381SC at the secret Carolina load recipe. He's shooting a Thompson long range in 6.5 CM, but getting quality time at his range had been an issue with hunting season about to start.

I found the required seating mandrel to work well if you have one of the newer ones that have been polished. The first one I got tended to weld itself to the bullet during seating. Lubing the necks didn't help much, so got it replaced under warranty and now it works fine.

If they compare to the old Winchester Silvertip of long ago,I would use them for hunting for sure.

I've mostly read about guys using the 230 and 250 .30 cal A-Tip for hunting than any of the others and those sound like they are actually working pretty well.

And the 300gr Sierra SMK too, but I know a lot of 338 shooters/hunters that this was their "go to" bullet of choice. Weren't Berger bullets somewhat exclusive to target shooters until more and more people used them for hunting and they found out they actually worked well for them, then, Berger started marketing toward hunters.

How much of this, target bullet, designation is so they can still get or use them for military contracts???

So how did they preform ? Weight retention ,mushrooming ,blood trail, blood shot etc.? Just curious as I might hunt with them in my pistol.

Don’t have that information. All the pictures I’ve seen though showed wrecked internals and pass throughs. Safe to say they mushroom.

Might have destroyed the internals (no photos to prove it), but it for sure looks like he destroyed all the shoulder meat as well. Berger 6.5mm 140 HVLD will vaporize vitals with very little meat damage on entry and exit.

As for that antelope YouTube video...what a joke. You can easily tell Gunwerks was paid off by Hornady to give a totally biased BS review. Obvious lying about performance caught right on camera.

Im sure the A-tip will kill just fine with a well placed shot, as will any bullet, but I'm not convinced in the slightest to change over from Berger for hunting.

In all seriousness, I have a hard time wanting to run these A tips in my PRS gun when I can get Tommy's automated bullets for far cheaper...

Has anyone been on a Horandy factory tour lately? I’m wondering if you can see how the Atips are made and why they cost so much. Reports all seem to be good, but when they’re priced higher than bullets that are hand made, you have to wonder why. Just marketing? A special labor intensive process? High waste? Maybe I need to take a trip to grand island and see.

I doubt you will get to see Atips manufactured or that they will even discuss it. They would not give out any information at all on Amax bullets in the past
