Hornady A-tip updates?

I would really like to hear results from shooters using the A-Tip . Gave my gun Builder a box of the 110 6,s. He handed me back what was left and said use for fire forming. SO his results on my two dasher's is not positive. I will add that the 109 Hybrid Berger looks like it will be a tack machine.

You want some Berger 109's to try? I'll sell you 500 cheap. It is kind of obvious you your smith needs to learn to load. The A Tip 110 is a very uniform bullet that shoots very small..... one more thing you need a 7.75 twist or faster like a 7 both shot small for me....jim

Dead on driveway going east
My experience using 135 gr A-tips from a 6.5 GAP on prairie dogs--muzzle velocity of 3062. First kill at 665 yards--complete pass through with no expansion. Then tried some closer in shots at 200 yards--same results, PD did not hardly know it was hit--stood there for a second or two and then fell over. Your mileage may vary?? Accuracy is great but not sure that much better than Hornady 143 gr ELD-X??

I've been playing with the 110gr variety in a 6mm GT recently. I wanted to hate them, and I'm still not a big Hornady fan, but those things freaking shoot.

I got them running ~2950 out of my gun. Going to drag them down to a 1,000 yard match here soon to see how it does. I fully expect to get trashed by 284s, RSAUMS etc. :)

I did just order several hundred more of them though.

Edit: John, I had success with mine about ~.040 off using a .2415 21st century mandrel after sizing down with a .266 bushing.

Thanks Mike. I bet that is on an outer node we may have not tried. That is the data I had hoped to hear. By Hornady's Intel they are forgiving, that may be a bit exaggerated. In Case you had this question Mike. Both guns have 7.7 on twist. Appreciate ya

For what it's worth, mine is a 30" 6GT, so it may have a touch more velocity headroom than a Dasher. Regardless, they shoot. :)

Initial 5 shot group for the 110 gr. from my 243 A I 7.5 tw. 26 " barrel blowing out brass looked promising. Less than .5 MOA. @ 100 yds. Definitely will shoot them again soon.

I'll start testing the 190's in a 7 Sherman Short this weekend. I formed up 100 pieces of brass this past weekend with 190 Bergers and the 8.25tw produced very good groups for FF loads that were very arbitrary. I have been trying to figure on a seating depth to use for a LR charge ladder. I thought I read somewhere that 0.030" off worked well with the 190 but damned if I can find that info to confirm.

I recently did my first powder test with the 176 gr. .308 cal. A-tips and it looks like 45 gr. of IMR 4064 may pan out to be an accurate load. Still not quite as good as the 175 gr. Sierra TMK or the 165 gr. Nosler AB but need to check bullet seating depth to see if the group will tighten up. Was using new Lapua brass and Fed 210M GM primers for this load.

Tried the 7mm atips 190s in a 7-270wsm 8.5 twist at 1000 not great poor vertical and poor accuracy they may require a faster twist, tried a 225 freebore as well as a 300 to get the pressure ring above the neck shoulder junction no difference shot like crap. Also tried the 166 in a 284 that one was more interesting it had similar bc to a tipped up 180 hybrid, unfortunately the accuracy wasn't equivalent. I haven't cracked the code on these tried 3 different powders RL 16 23 and h1000 speeds from 2800-3000 jam +010 to jump -.040 couldn't get anything that looked competitive in a f open rifle in the context of 20 shot strings.

They shoot fine in a 8.25tw at speeds at/under 2800. 8.5 may be too slow as I think I might be on the edge with the 8.25.
