over set back shoulder fix?

short confession-I switched sizing dies and failed to confirm the shoulder bump on the new set( I thought they had both been set for this rifle but...)-seem to have set shoulder back too far and am getting some Failures to Fire-Is this brass salvageable? re-fireform with "long"bullets? have hydroformed? other options
Thanks
Mark

I did that very same thing with some .223s. I necked the brass up to .25 caliber (Sinclair neck expander) creating a false shoulder to head space the cartridge on. Then with my die re-set, I necked it back down to the proper specs.

That will keep the case head against the bolt head till it gets fire formed

I'm not so sure about that . Depending on the action/bolt the ejector will push the case forward as far as the extractor will allow . I know my Savage ejectors would not depress before the bullet was seated deeper

You could FL size the necks and soft seat bullets into jam.
Agreed, assuming the neck tension is not too light and the freebore allows a touch. If it’s a factory chamber then a false shoulder may be the only option.

LOTS of neck tension will keep the bullet from sliding in the case neck till the case gets blown out to match the chamber.

Dont bet on it. It doesnt on other cases- it drives the shoulder forward til it stops then stretches the case wall above the base. This is why people use the false shoulder on a dasher- it would be easy to just jam it. Theres not enough neck tension available to hold it back on any case.

It's no different than fire forming a wildcat. Jam the bullets at least 0.10" and fire. When I FF 6BR to 6BRX the shoulder is 0.100" short in the chamber. No problem.

How many cases are involved?

Is it worth all the aggravation?

A new set of cases shouldn't cause you to take a second mortgage on your house.

Dusty and a couple other guys helped me out with this exact problem, earlier this summer. 6ppc brass. 4 thou neck tension on a jammed bullet didn’t work. The false shoulder did!;)

I've never had jammed bullets work. I just get light primer strikes/fail-to-fire. False shoulder by necking up then necking back down is 100% successful.

Thanks all, it is just 50 cases of 284shehane, I have used the false shld very successfully on BR-->BRX, I just didnt want to waste 50 excess rounds thru the bbl--yes I am cheap--

Softer primer along with jam might work.
I used cci 400's vrs 450's in my first 6bra that was reamed a little long.

False shoulder would be a for sure though.

Remove the extractor button and snip a coil or two off the spring. I believe if it is pushing the bullet in during bolt closing, it is probably throwing your brass too far on ejection anyway.
