Great way to Ship a Barrel

Unless it's required, like serialized parts, lie if it's gonna cause an issue. And everything causes an issue. I was chatty with the usps once and mentioned the TV I was shipping was broken (eBay, sold AS broken) and that freaked them out. Cannot insure broken things etc (BS: it's got an electrical issue, but if you smash it I want value back).

Anyway, since then, no matter what, I am as vague as possible, or if I can I do all packaging and postage buying online, just drop it off. No conversing with counter people at all.

As said above, order USPS packaging of all sorts for free:

Thanks for the triangle box tip. Will be keeping some on hand. Some of the boxes I receive from customers are flat out crazy. :D:D:eek:

I had been thinking about those triangle boxes for a couple of years now for shipping barrels. I like the noodle tip.

I also think it's important to use good quality tape, like strapping tape or equivalent, not the cheapest cellophane tape you can buy. kreiger, pacnor bartlein, brux, of just about any barrel manufactures, will use strapping tape when they ship a barrel. I got a barrel once that had fallen out of the package, it the ground, put a nice dent in it and the seller blamed usps, but it was clear to me it was crappy tape failure. I mean you can break cellophane tape with the poke of a pencil. "better tape"

I went into a UPS store just last week to ship a barrel to a member here. The lady (pink/blue hair) ask me what I was shipping. I said a barrel for a firearm. She almost passed out. She looked at the female manager and said "we dont ship gun parts do we" the manager said "No we dont". I said I see UPS delivering firearms all the time at gun shops. I actually thought they were going to panic and call authorities. I just walked out.

When I get asked, I tell them it's steel tubing, which is true. They don't need to know it was stress relieved, precision deep hole drilled, reamed, rifled, tapered and lapped, nor do they ask!

Dave.

UPS "store" is just a parasitic pretender. Going to a UPS facilty will get the job done with little or no stress, at least in our area.

Pool noodles are always on sale at academy. And the main thing is they fit the box the op was talking about where pipe insulation doesnt

Seems the local Dollar stores are always having a sale on the pool noodles too. These work real well for shipping all kinds of delicate things.

I sold off some rear sights several years ago, all wrapped in pool noodles. Everyone was happy with the condition of the sights when they arrived.

Are these available at most every Post Office? I have looked in the past and don't recall ever seeing something like this. I hope to grab a couple on my next trip to the post office. Great suggestion!
You can order them and have them shipped to your house on usps.com

Make sure you don’t send a barrel in a pool noodle that has ever been used. Made that mistake a few years back and the chlorine from the pool water turned the barrel into a nice rusty pipe between Tennessee and Texas. Brand new floats on the other hand work wonders.
