Picking a Great Shooting Barrel - Hogwash!

Good luck SDWW, You'll be in my prayers.

Thank You so much my friend. Need all the prayers I can get.

Apologize for getting this thread off topic with my 'issues' and irrelevant stupid comments!

Now back to pickin that 'hummer' that rcw has for sale!

I for one am grateful that folks like Robert buy and stock some barrels for us fellas to purchase. I haven't bought a barrel from Robert but i have spent plenty with a few others around here that stock and keep barrels on hand. If it were not for folks like Robert we all would have to wait at least 4 months for our needs.
Gun shop and range talk tends to lead a lot of folks astray. I have been victim of it myself. One thing i have learned over the last few years is that the majority of riflemen are good honest folks. bench rest shooters always seem to be outstanding honest folks. I have never been burned while dealing with a fellow bench shooter. This holds true for most competitive shooting sports i think. Lee

Culls, Blems, Premiums, Match, Selects or whatever,
All i know is i bought a Bartlien MTU 30 cal from RCW3 and it shoots great.
i'm saving funds for another!

A borescope will not tell you if a bbl will shoot or not.....I have spent numerous hours peering through one to know that. However what a scope WILL show you is if there is a defect in the bbl and thus whether you should return it or not.

For example, I had a palma bbl from a VERY well known manufacturer that I received and I put the scope in the bbl to check it out. About half way down the bbl, a land was totally mutilated for about 1/4 of an inch. This bbl I would speculate would never shoot due to the severity of this gouge in the land.I contacted the manufacturer and very politely informed him that the bbl should never have passed his QC, the defect was that alarming. With a slight smugness the shop foreman asked that I return the bbl so he could see for himself. I did just that and even marked the bbl to signal the appox location of the defect. About a week after returning the bbl to the manufacturer, I got a phone call from the shop foreman telling me that the bbl would be replaced

My point is that the defect was only detected by the use of a scope before I had fitting fees, time in testing, driving expenses and the humiliation of getting my rear trounced in matches that are usually very far away.

A scope will not tell you if a bbl is going to be a good one BUT it will show you any defect in a bbl that will most assuredly make it a bad one BEFORE you spend a lot of money and time on it.

And that is all I have to say about that.........with apologies to Forrest Gump

I'll go along with Larry. All my rifles are shooting great right now, and I'll be damned if I want to look in them! LOL!
When they stop shooting I'll buy a new barrel.
