Given how a MagnetoSpeed senses the bullet traveling over it, it'll depend on the size of the bullet and the sensitivity setting. If it's a .22 LR, you're not going to have much to work with for a distance below, even the the sensitivity set at max. If you're firing a bullet like a .338, you can set the sensitivity to a high setting and have the ManetoSpeed mounted well below the manufacture suggested position. Just exactly how far??? One would have to experiment one's particular set up to see what the limit is.

The square aluminum rod that comes with it appears to be a quarter-inch I would say that is what it should be set at maximum maybe three eights would be my guess obviously you could keep going wider and wider until it starts dropping shots that would be a good test

Ill call first thing monday morning. Reason being is im trying to design a mounting system that separtates it from the barrel to reduce the possibility of poi shift.

I use this from wiser precision very light And it attaches to my atlas rail with quick disconnect mounts

So magnetospeed never got back to me but i found that anything over 1.25 inches from the boreline is utterly unreliable/undetectable.

I'm surprised it's that far. I figured anything much over 1/2 inch would get unreliable readings

The larger the caliber bullet, the further you can go due to the magnetic field. My .270 is way less tolerant
