First time needing advice, Reload for umpteen cartridges and many many years, but have a limited window to get started on this one 270 WSM season starts next weekend and need to load for Nosler 130 E Tips My question to any one who already loads for it is what are a few more commonly used powders there is a LOT listed in the manuals but would like to narrow it down to get going, Any help will be appreciated

Thank you
Sunny first timer here

IMR-4350 has worked well for me using 130 grain Ballistic Tip and Accubond bullets.

Thank you mmcu, that is were I'll start. also looking at H4831 and IMR 4451 since I have both already hope they will preform

Why, why, why ? 130 grain ? Why? Throw them away and get the 95ttsx barnes. Way, way better out to 500yds. Don't believe me ? Check it on a ballistic's calculation. You will see what i mean. Copper bullet's depend on velocity to create a bigger wound, fast=big wound ,slow= small wound. 130 = small wound. 95= big wound. Also more speed = deeper penetration. 95 will penetrate just as deep for sure. Also flater trajectory.

I’m not following the this.
What animal are you killing at 500 yards with a 95 gr projectile a coyote?
J

This is for a real good friend he is like family 75 years old and stubborn as a mule so no talking him out of it, he wants weight !! "weight kills" he says, I have this afternoon loaded his 130s and some of my 100 GMXs ran out of 110s Now it is up to him His shoulder not mine. 3 different powders we'll see what happens, This beast would take me at least a week or two to shoot that many groups.

My Daughter and I just bought one for the Son in Law, hope he likes it?

Montana Mule Deer!!

You need to learn ballistic calculation. Speed increases energy much better than weight, on the order of one hundred percent more! Speed is the answer and a 95ttsx will for sure do better than a 130 etip. In all relevant category of performance( killing ability) .

He is stuk on lead bullet theory, weight is needed for lead bullet's but not for copper!

Have you ever shot an Elk with a 95 gr bullet from any distance?
I’m guessing no

I hunt elk with a 270 WSM using 150 grain Accubonds or a 338 Win Magnum with 225 grain Accubonds I also have a 30-06 but have not hunted with it for years (a highly customized 1917 Enfield)

Yes and it went through and through. You need a copper bullet education.
You shot an Elk with a 95 gr bullet and it went through and through what ever that means,

Did it drop the Elk or did it run off and finally die or Did it kill cleanly?
Sorry no education required I’m fine , I’ll stick with a little heavier bullet thank you

H-4831 is guaranteed to be very accurate.

H-4831 / H-4831sc much of the time shoots best below MAX.
So there is a chance you might be leaving some velocity on the table, but 50 or even 75 fps will not make or brake the kill.

It's also very good in different temperatures, so your zero will not shift much, if any.

Please report back.

I don't hunt Elk but I do shoot copper bullets. What I can tell you to be a fact is you don't need a heavy bullet, my 270 Win load is a 110 gr TTSX x 59 grs of RL-17. A 1" high sight in at 100 yds puts the bullet 1-3" low at 300 yds depending upon barrel length. This load is running 3550 out of a 23" Shilen barrel and I can tell you for a fact that I've never killed an animal as fast/good with a cup & core bullet. Amount of animals that took a step = 0. How does the bullet look? No idea, I have never recovered 1 and have shot a few thru both shoulders trying to get 1. I've killed in the neighborhood of 100 critters since switching and they aren't 90 lb deer. High velocity shock is absolutely awesome, I would shoot the biggest bear that walked with this load. I know there will be more than a few doubters but it's fact. I have guys in deer camp that won't look at copper bullets. The difference is we have to trail/look for their critters.
