I don’t know why it’s so hard for some to understand that Phoenix just isn’t doable for a large number of shooters due to the distance for basically everyone East of Oklahoma...it’s 4 days driving time from my home state of Arkansas..2 out and 2 back..for those on the east coast, it’s almost impossible! There are a lot of shooters that aren’t retired and have jobs that don’t allow that kind of time to be taken off...what about those guys? No one seems too really give a rip about those guys..its a National Championship and should be hosted in a place that allows ALL shooters the opportunity attend..not just those privileged enough to be retire or have a job that allows time needed for the traveling..
Your point is well-taken. However, it is even more important that first and foremost, the FCNCs be held at a range fully capable of hosting an event of that size. Choosing a site to host the FCNCs simply due to its location that isn't up to the task will only ensure that a large number of the attendees will be miserable, even if they didn't have to drive very far.
If the folks in charge of organizing the FCNCs could make public some sort of minimal acceptable requirements necessary for a range to reasonably host the FCNCs, then all the ranges in the country both capable and willing to host the FCNCs could apply and possibly even compete for the right to host, similar to the way it is done for the Olympics. My gut feeling is that there simply aren't many 1000 yd ranges from the middle of the country toward the northeast capable of hosting events of that size. However, the use of e-targets might change that situation. I can't imagine anyone actively wants to screw the shooters that live in the East/Northeast by making them travel a long way to the FCNCs, but there isn't currently much of a choice if there aren't many ranges capable or willing to hold them in those regions.
