2020-21 fclass nationals

What if a smaller range somewhere new hosted MR?

There might just be such a range coming on-line!? Dead Zero Shooting Park vicinity Spencer and Dunlap, TN: 100 thru 1,000 yards with Shot Marker ETs and "practicescore scoring", and 25 firing points. All under a high, fully incompasing "hay barn" roof, all concrete flooring (lots of covered space), except for the actual firing points, which are indoor-outdoor carpet over light gravel. Major drawbacks currently are lack of close-in competitor housing and resturants in the local towns area...it's rustic and in embroynic stages now, but just you wait!!! It promises to overtake Lodi very soon, IMO.

Would require an exception to the rules from the NRA, not that it's out of the question.

Back when the NRA published the rules change that moved F Class mid-range out of Camp Perry after '14 the rule required hosting both at the same range consecutively if I'm not recalling things incorrectly.

I thought at the time having them back to back would hurt midrange, and I still think it does. There are only so many people who can afford to burn that much vacation at one whack; however, the mid range would need to be held at a significantly different time than long range to lessen that effect. Take for example the first mid range championships in 2013 The first time they held the MR championship at Camp Perry (was sling and F class), it was poorly attended by F class shooters in part because it was held the weekend before the FCNC/FCWC started at Raton.

One other thing that has happened is that mid range has become more popular in a lot of places that don't have 1000 yard ranges. It hadn't really caught on yet in 13/14.

Rick, I don't know if it was a "rule change".

You probably know the story better than I, but the mid range national championship for both sling and F class was held on Rodriguez at Perry in '13 and '14. In '13 it was the weekend before the FCNC/FCWC started at Raton and for pretty obvious reasons very few people attended.

I went there in '14, and attendance was low in general, but I thought F class was about 1/3 or more of the field. That was also the last yr that they held the F class Great Lakes Regional match that was started in '12 for the Americas match that was shot along side of the National Championship matches. That long range match had miserable attendance in '14. (like half a dozen shooters) The Great Lakes Regional was held starting immediately after the MR. I shot the regional in '12, and the MR NC and the Regional in '14.

I recall that there was a competitors meeting at some point during this time frame and F-Class in general did not want to be pulled into Perry and the Camp Perry format in '16. (Very glad we weren't) I remember a conversation I had with John Sigler and relaying that I hoped we never had to shoot a national there under their format.

In any case, when it was announced that the NRA split the MR FCNC off in late '14 I recall that something was published or linked to at some point that talked about the requirements to hold the FCNC. Relying on my memory from 5 yrs ago it may be wrong, but I recall that it included being able to support 200 shooters in 4 relays, (basically 50 firing points), and that the club hosting had to host the MR and LR national championships consecutively.

I don’t know why it’s so hard for some to understand that Phoenix just isn’t doable for a large number of shooters due to the distance for basically everyone East of Oklahoma...it’s 4 days driving time from my home state of Arkansas..2 out and 2 back..for those on the east coast, it’s almost impossible! There are a lot of shooters that aren’t retired and have jobs that don’t allow that kind of time to be taken off...what about those guys? No one seems too really give a rip about those guys..its a National Championship and should be hosted in a place that allows ALL shooters the opportunity attend..not just those privileged enough to be retire or have a job that allows time needed for the traveling..

If I drove it Phoenix is 40 hours rolling for me from here, Raton is 32. That's actual time on the highway rolling. So pretty much eight days round trip to PHX, and six to Raton. Yea, that makes it a long reach.
