Sightron joins the elite scope class.

With their new SV ED 10X-50X, Sightron is joining the elite premium scopes. I have shot their SIII in 10x-50X for several years and while this scope represents one of the best values in high powered scopes, many shooters are willing to pay for superb optics. The lens in these optics need to have the extra low dispersion (ED) glass and the new Sightron has this type glass. There are other premium features of this new scope including locking turrets, 7-layer coating, 34 mm main tube, and Exac-trac (a proprietary method of insuring that the scope holds zero), and a parallax focus that features a double knob for coarse and fine adjustments.. This scope is expensive (~$2200) but many shooters are willing to pay a premium price for a premium product. I will be receiving one of these scopes for testing this next week and I will relay my impressions to this forum. Good shooting....James Mock

The SVSS series are all great scopes and the new SVSSED models take it to another level !!!

Be curious to see how much, if any movement on POA!!
 
I wish they would ask us PMS dorks before they build these. No matter how good the glass, or how good it tracks, the reticle is useless for us and will not sell to anybody playing our game...
 
My SIII 10-50 FCH weights 30.1 oz. The new SVSSED weight 42.7 oz. It would really be a challenge to make the 17 pound IBS light gun weight.

We have to have First Focal Plane. Most use MILs, some use MOA, but the concept works on either. Usually a 5-25x (or similar) and finely graduated reticles, often with holdovers for elevation and wind. These may look very busy to you guys, but it's what most of us prefer. Check out below. 2/10ths Mil graduations and what we call a "Christmas Tree" Reticle.

The SVSSED models have Not been on the market that long. - Sightron's website shows they rolled out #'s 27008, 27009, 27010, & 27011 in 2019 or there about's. (Late 2018) - 27010, & 27011 are shown as " NEW 2019 & Coming soon" - These are "marketed" as "ED" scopes.

Excellent/Great glass is just that, but each individuals eyes have preferences as to what looks good / best to that person.

The SVSS #'s 27000, 27001, 27002, 27003 have been around for 3-4 years. (I purchased my first two in early 2016)
The glass in the SVSS's are not the same as the SIII's, and to my eyes the SVSS's have a sharper & clearer view/presentation in a side-by-side comparison. To me I'm willing to pay for that "sharper & clearer view/presentation" in a scope where weight is Not a factor.

I have not yet done a comparison of a SVSSED (27008) with a SVSS (27000 & 27001) but will do at some point in the near future.

The entire shooting world doesn't revolve around PRS plain and simple. - I know that "PRS" has become quite popular and I don't understand why either the MOA 2 or the MIL H reticules are "useless" for those shooting that discipline ? Is not a half a MOA fine enough resolution ?
I can understand that a 42 + ounce scope probably is a bit on the "husky side" for the rifles shot in PRS.

I never said it did.

Every discipline is different. I don't assume that because I know one, I know them all. I certainly don't give advice on BR or F-Class shooting.

I stand corrected. This new Mil-Hash-H looks like a winner. Sounds like they got the memo. I always wanted to try a Sightron scope, I have heard nothing but great thing about them over the years. With this new reticle, I may try one out.

I'm Not trying to be hard on you or anyone else. - One thing I see on here is at times a member(s) will make a statement/assessment/judgments/etc. on a product or the features or specifications on something and at times they are not "accurate" or they are speaking without "real-world experience". - I'm not trying to put you in that category.

- To me, this site should be not only about "accurate shooting & for all disciplines'" but as well "Accurate information" that we users collectively disseminate.
I spoke about the SVSS's because I own 5 of them, one being the new "ED" model. - I do not claim to be an optics specialist or a Sightron guru. - As well, I try not to speak with "bias" about a product just because "I own it". Not everything that I've purchased / tried has lived up to my expectations. But I can say that the SVSS line has lived up to expectations thus far.
