williamsport 1000 yrd world open

Well I'll put my two cents in I think any national event should be A3 Target aggregate it's a very fair program and if you got a good tune is primarily about improvise overcome and adapt plain and simple the champion will rise to the top(The wind is your friend)the rest is up to you sorry.

I propose having a 2 day shoot with the ability to complete with either class of gun you choose. From what I have witnessed, the light guns shoot just as good and if not better then the heavy guns. Most top shooters roll between both classes using a light gun. Have a random rotation for both days of shooting and give the shooter the ability to throw away one score and one group. It would be simple math after that.

Looked at those results on their website. I am the worse for wasting time looking. There are no groups or scores. Just a bunch of hokum with relative points for rankings. What a disappointment if you want to know how good those shooters were. Actually, worthless.

Did not see any pictures but there may be some somewhere. Reads like a grave disservice to shooters thinking about future participation and learning from the results.

I think I have pictures of everything except day one heavy gun. If you send me your email I can forward them. Really wish I had day one heavy gun.

Makes me wish I had taken pictures of all the score sheets.

:(:(:(
Me too. A few pictures of the winners and maybe a list of equipment used would sure be nice. Thanks for the idea. You surely would not have known the dereliction of duty the organizers practiced in covering the shoot results. Sure not open to analysis like an IBS shoot.

Mike, while your at it send him a pocket knife to take weight off his light gun.... LOL jim

I shot the World Open this year. Williamsport is a magical place. The people there are top notch. Been shooting there since 1989. This year for what ever reason the board decided to deviate from the norm. Don’t understand why, but I’m being told it was to equal the field so that all competitors had a equal chance to win a prize. This is not a bad idea because of the travel and money involved. The point system should have been published, so all competitors could have made a decision prior to sending money, secondary the group and score results should be posted so the competitors can do the math. Williamsport is the birth place for 1000yd benchrest shooting, they should be an example for all to follow. Hope next year will be better.

They should post it. Unfortunately I didn’t take pictures of the results for both days or I would. But I should not have to.

Like I said prior, it is a wonderful facility with beautiful beautiful people. Can’t wait shoot this Sunday, but don’t know what happened. The focus should be promoting our sport. Period. The young shooters are our future.

I have a feeling the actual scores and groups will not be posted because then all hell would break out. Someone would have almost certainly gotten screwed based on this unknown points system....? This really is a depressing direction for the sport.

People get screwed, with the relays and benches "the computer draw" has them shoot on, this is why they tried this system. Trying to level the playing field, it to reward those who shoot good on bad relays and there were a bunch of them. Shooting on a good relay you don't get many points for winning it, because everyone shot good. A two target agg is tuff, one bad target you are out of it. ...... jim

People bitch about a bad draw in racing all the time. The best deal with it and still kick ass. Every system has its flaws but this just seems a little “out there”. I think that’s why it would be within everyone’s best interest to post the actual scores, groups, and points system. Who knows, maybe we will all change our mind once we can actually see it. If this is supposed to be the greatest 1000 yd shoot of the year with the best prize table....why turn it into this?

It still came down to the best barrels and bullets, and it sure isn't like racing....... jim

No one seems to be complaining bout the points system even know what they use out west seems to be simpler and better. I believe most of us want to see the scores and groups. Scores and groups are what people are interested in. Who won doesn't seem to be an issue.
