lightweight rifle build

The MPA ultralite claims 2.5lbs and the XLR carbon claims 27oz(does not include grip or AR type butt stock) so they can be "fairly" light, nothing like a conventional stock. The OP gave no info on the scope other than price and mil.... missing parameters such as FFP/SFP, power, weight, reticle, W/E travel, zero stops, capped/uncapped, tube size, etc. There are literally hundreds of "what lightweight scope...." threads on LRH but more info is needed to give any advice.

I'm not a big fan of chassis stocks so I'm not nearly as familiar with what's out there as you. Looks like his 10lb range may well be possible with that MPA stock but will be close.
I have a Cooper model 22 with a Christensen carbon barrel chambered in 7mm-08 and a heavy Leupold 3.5-10 VX3 Long range scope. The whole thing weighs just under 7.5lbs ready to go and is a tack driver.

I take one look at that rifle then hear that the op wants to stay under 8lbs with a chassis and just thought to myself...there's no way! I still don't think he'll get anywhere close to 8 but 10 may be doable.
Thanks!--Mike

FFP, power doesn’t really matter to me, even on longer range shots I’m usually only on 12x. I like my NF MILR reticle but I don’t get to hung up on that either. Zero stop is pretty important to me. Tube diameter doesn’t matter to me either.
Here's a ton of lightweight scope threads;

SWFA has a pretty good filter(ffp, price, magnification, etc.) menu on the left of the screen;

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but don't most chassis style stocks weigh close to what he want his finished rifle to weigh? And isn't a Douglas #2 SMALLER than a Rem sporter? I'm missing a lot here, evidently, but what do I know?

The factory Rem barrels on my Model 7's were lighter than a standard factory Rem sporter barrel.

My new Douglas barrels measure .65" at the muzzle which is considerably thicker than the original factory Rem barrels. I used the nomenclature that my gun smith told me, i.e. No. 2 contour to describe the Douglas barrels he used to replace the factory barrels.

PS: These thicker barrels are well worth the extra weight since they are much stiffer and provide better balance to the rifle not to mention the major improvement in accuracy.

You're right. Some of the m7 rifles had a mtn contour with a .550 or .560 muzzle, where the std rem sporters are about .660. I think the douglas #2 is between them at about .600@24". Stan might clarify if he sees this.
I've had a couple of the m7s with the light barrel. Nice guns but I never could get decent accuracy from them.

I wish I did like traditional style stocks, my life would be 10x easier. If New York would be sensible and allow semi auto AR15’s I’d just get a 6.5 Grendel and call it a day but I don’t have that option. AR style chassis just fit me so much better. I changed the bipod to save some weight and I’m at 7.95# just need scope and rings. I think I might be able to get in just under 9#. I’d consider that a win for my application.

I thought you could have an AR with that goofy buttstock and be legal?

That’s correct. It’s just to cheesey for me. I forget the name of the company that’s make a “normal” looking AR15 but it’s got a welded in magazine, you have to load it and unload it like a break Action (but it holds 10 rounds). But that’s just a PITA for hunting, loading and unloading frequently.

They have to protect you from you.
