Glass Bed Only OR Pillar & Glass Bed?

I have 3 benchrest actions that are glued in. 2 short-range 100-200yd & one 17lb 1000yd gun. Cleaning is not an issue.

Yeah but removing and replacing the barrel and servicing/removing the trigger sure can be trouble. I know.

As for the issue of utmost accuracy, my limited experience with "glued and screwed" once and just "glued" another time have both had unpleasant side-affects.

Not if they're built correctly.

I can swap a barrel and trigger on a glued in rifle before you can remove your action from the stock. Your gunsmith needs to know what hes doing or it will be a pain though.

To get a glued action out of a stock. Stick it in your freezer over night and it will pop right out!

I wish I could say that. I have to take my stock off, and unpin the trigger, then remove three screws from side plate to clean the trigger. Very often. Not liking that. Mike

First thing id do is figure out why you gotta clean the trigger that often then figure out how to unpin the trigger while in the stock. Back when we used remingtons in br, a long 1/8 punch would take em right out with the holes we had in the stocks

Looking to bed my Savage LA in 6BR Norma into a Boyds Laminated stock. Looking for the most cost effective way to do this. I would like to do it myself but not confident enough since i have not done it before and want it done right on this rifle.

Back to the OP. Pillar/epoxy bedding isn't rocket science. Watch some YouTube videos and have at it. Materials cost will be $60 or less, even if you use a kit. I do mine with JB Weld and homemade aluminum pillars -- total cost about $15. There is absolutely no reason to pay someone to do this.

A glue-in isn't really suitable for your action. Actions meant to be glued in have trigger hangers so that the trigger can be removed without ungluing the action (or, if very old-school, holes drilled in the stock so the trigger pins can be driven out without ungluing the action).

Here's a Rem 700 ADL that I just did for a buddy of mine. There's a pillar just below the tang, which you can't see in this photo. I place the pillars below the bedding surface so that there is a thin layer of epoxy over the pillars (as well as under the tang and receiver). I drill the holes for the pillars with a piloted counterbore, but there are other ways to do it.

Yes Toby, I originally wanted to do this myself and watched many videos and read alot of articles. I probably don't have to right tools for the job (drill press for one).

I'd really like to find someone who would help me so I can learn as I do it. But no luck with that so far.

I'll probably just end up using Pierce Eng. and spending a couple hundred bucks. I'll continue to look for kits to do it myself and maybe I'll attempt it.

Are you using guide pins to push excess bedding material out through bottom of action screw holes.

Savage can be a little tricky getting sear clearance around the rear pillar.

Do you have another not so nice bolt gun you can learn on? Brownells sells piloted drills that would work with a hand drill for drilling holes for the pillars.

Are you using guide pins to push excess bedding material out through bottom of action screw holes.

Fill anything you don’t want bedding to get into with modeling clay.
