NRA Saga Continues

I never felt my return on investment with the NRA was worth it recently and dropped my membership. I give my money to political causes that result in getting more conservative judges on the Supreme Court. That is where we will win the battle.

That and the senate. It just blows my mind when people are so willingly giving up rights. We shouldn’t even need an NRA if our government respected us.

I can never get a straight answer as to what is going on in the upper management, but it does irritate me that I am constantly getting calls asking for money. Wayne La Pierre makes $6M a year plus expenses. The board members are all VERY well compensated also. Maybe some fat should be trimmed from the top ???

I just got another one of the (almost) daily pleas for cash that still has Chris Cox's name on it. I used the postage paid envelope to send my note saying they can have my money when LaPierre buys his own suits (he makes 1.4 million a year) and they start using my money to do what they're supposed to do.
Like I said before I have been an NRA member for 48 years but until there's a change I'll only be supporting GOA and SAF.

I'm going to break a personal rule of mine and comment on a politically sensitive issue because I think the stakes are so high. I been a competitive shooter, recreational shooter, and hunter for over 50 years. I grew up in a hunting family and culture. I also believe in the right of self defense and that gun ownership is a constitutional right. However...

The problem of the NRA is Wayne LaPierre and his cohorts. Read his personal history - google it and read it. They seem more interested in having an issue to inflame people to raise money to fund their exorbitant salaries and lifestyle than working towards formulating polices to address the gun violence issue facing this country.

After Sandy Hook the NRA had an opportunity so show some sensible leadership on gun issues but failed. The climate is changing and either you bend with the wind or you break. I don't understand their stand against gun show background checks when there is clear evidence that guns have been sold to convicted felons and drug dealers as reported in the CNN special because of the gun show background check loophole.

I don't understand their stand against banding bump stocks.

I don't understand their stand against limiting magazine capacity.

And please don't give me the tired and worn out argument that people kill not guns. True there are other contributing factors to gun violence for example violent video games that glorify killing but when you place weapons capable of mass destruction in the hands of the general public bad things are going to happen.

If you read the history of the United State you will learn that this country was built of compromise. I'm afraid we are going to lose it all if we don't show some sensible compromise because society is not going to continue to accept mass killings. The left wing will always over reach - they want to ban all firearms and hunting, make no mistake about it. It's the people in the middle that we must win if are to retain our right to keep and bear arms and preserve our heritage of hunting. I believe the way to do that is to demonstrate that we are open to reasonable and sensible gun laws and most importantly enforcing the laws already in existence.

I was a long time supporter of the NRA, over 40 years. They were a great organization promoting gun safety, marksmanship training and competitive shooting. We also owe them a debt of gratitude for protecting gun rights but they seem to have gone to the extreme. As one other poster stated, I didn't leave them, they left me. They need a regime change especially when they force a man like Oliver North out - compare North's background to Wayne LaPierre's.

I've said my peace - I will say not more.

No offense, I respect your opinion, from a fellow shooter to another, but the whole reason why we are in this mess is because of comprise. What do we comprise to? Where do we stop at? Single shot F class rifles? Muzzle loaders? How about bows? A bow is kind of like a gun. What? you can bench press 350lbs and know how to throw a punch? Better register you....

We compromised in

1934

1967

1986

1993

And

2017

Not to mention all our fellow shooters who are stuck in States that infringe on their rights everyday. I’m tired of comprise. People expect me to work, I expect the same from them. No more compromise.

That’s too bad. Was hoping someone could finally explain the idiotic notion of “the gun show loophole.”
I think the gun show loophole refers to individuals, non FFL holders buying a table at a gun show, then selling guns from their private collection. Being a non FFL, there is no avenue for this guy to do the 4473 paperwork or background check on anyone buying one of his guns, a free pass so to speak, no different than individual sales on a daily basis.
I'm not positive, but I do not think selling a gun at a show here in WY is legal w/o doing the NICS check. I am all for a NICS check and will not sell today w/o doing one unless you are a close personal friend.

In that case, you and the NRA should get along just great. They also support all sorts of infringements on the 2nd amendment.
Whatever, I despise the nra.
I just got caught up in gifting a guy a gun who legally could not own one a few yrs back. Myself and the smith who was in on it also got scammed by a nice guy. It will not happen again.
We all have reasons for making a stand, I made mine and your ilk wont change that.

Gun show loophole, aka no NICS check. A few years back I went to a couple gun auctions in PA. Both were in rural areas. Only long guns were sold, mostly bolt action, and shotguns with a few black gun sprinkled in. All you needed was a PA bank checking account or PA driver's license to purchase. Sales were considered face to face. Not making any judgements but a few of the buyers looked a little sketchy.

Me too...I bought a stolen rifle once. Who did the ATF and LEO come after? Me of course. Took them a month to get off my case. Then when I asked for my money back after they confiscated the rifle they told me to figure it out.

Yep, that’s why we need more government infringement on our God-given rights. Obviously the founding fathers never intended for people who look “a little sketchy” to own firearms.

Yet after every mass shooting some of us wish that the idiot who did it wouldn't have had access to firearms, it's a double edged sword here. Just because you own a gun, doesn't mean I have to trust you with it.

Most people don’t like “extremists” no matter what side of the spectrum those extremists reside on. K22 makes valid points that should not be dismissed.

Your response leads me to conclude you will shun the politician that agrees with you 85% of the time so the politician who agrees with you 0% of the time gets elected. Maybe that’s how we ended up where we are??

Nope, not what I said at all. Your conclusion is wrong. I also didn’t discredit anything he said. I respectfully disagreed. He had great points.

I got the New Zealand thread shut down for my opinions. I’ll drag this one out and shut it down too. We can go down this rabbit hole about my personal beliefs or we can stay on topic about the overarching theme.

We ended up where we are because over the course of this century men lost their spines. It’s that simple. Cave a little here, cave a little there, they’ll leave us alone after this law. And yup here we are.

If you’re insinuating I’m a Hilary supporter your are wrong. I’m allowed to be pissed at elected officials regardless if they are cons or dems. Isn’t that the last great thing we have about American or should that be compromised away too?

Freedom can be scary. Asking the government to make it less scary is moving in the exact wrong direction.

I understand where milo is coming from though bc if anyone is connected in anyway to that firearm in question then the LEO comes after you too. I was the victim when I purchased a stolen firearm but I was treated like the suspect. Milo is just covering his butt, and I don’t blame him one bit for that. It’s scary when The law has you in their crosshairs.

Being from Georgia, I would have thought the November election would have apprised you of the way the wind is blowing!??

How close it was? Yeah it was scary. I was pretty annoyed with Kemp, but I was at the mercy of a two party system. Lesser of two evils was a blessing in this case I agree to that.
