Last NRA thread was removed just FYI.
I’m a lifetime member. If they aren’t performing, like any entity that provides a service, then they need to be fixed. What good is throwing money at a problem if it isn’t getting the results you want....
Here are some of the NRAs “notable achievements” from some quick google searches:
“In 1934, the National Rifle Association created a Legislative Affairs Division and testified in front of Congress in support of the first substantial federal gun control legislation in the US, the
National Firearms Act.
[61]”
“The NRA also supported California’s Mulford Act of 1967, which had banned carrying loaded weapons in public in response to the Black Panther Party’s impromptu march on the State Capitol to protest gun control legislation on May 2, 1967.”
“ the NICS—the National Instant Criminal Background System—was the legislation that the NRA supported at its very inception and has consistently supported since.”
“But in order to win votes among Democratic congressional votes, however, the NRA was forced to abandon an entire category of firearm: machine guns. According to the amendment, introduced at the last minute by New Jersey House Democrat William Hughes, any civilian possession of machine guns manufactured after May 19, 1986 — of which there are still 193,000 in circulation today — could be prosecuted. Already existing machine guns would be closely tracked by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The NRA played the sacrifice as virtually meaningless. “I remember very well having dinner…with Wayne LaPierre on the big victory after it passed the House,” said former NRA lobbyist “And we weren’t too concerned about the machine gun issue.” But the decision set a precedent, especially for a powerful lobby that increasingly prided itself on zero Second Amendment compromises.”
“Despite the fact that the Obama administration approved the sale of bump fire stocks on at least two occasions, the National Rifle Association is calling on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law. The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations.”
“In 2016 the NRA raised a record $366 million and spent $412 million for political activities.”
AND something as simple as suppressors we still don’t have. The NRA can’t help us stick tubes on the end of our guns, but they still call me once a week asking for more money. The NRA is just a speed bump to the inevitable.
I’m joining the GOA. If everyone jumps ship hopefully the GOA can do what the NRA was supposed to do, and the NRA gets a wake up call to fix their act. Also, during those phone surveys I tell them how I feel.
I do my part supporting 2A by voting for pro 2A politicians, introducing friends, family, and coworkers to hunting and shooting, and buying stuff from the shooting industry ($400 billion a year industry in the US). So don’t lump me into an anti 2A group bc I’m upset with the NRAs history and current performance. The only other thing I could do is quit my job and work for them to change them culturally or become a lawyer.
