This May need to go under “gear reviews”? But anyway I managed to destroy the monitor on my original Borecam so I bought another with the “improved “ resolution. WoW what a difference! The screen is more like one of my digital tv’s than the old grainy almost black and white picture. I have not tried the photo option on the SD card but will and try to get posted. The box with the blue “improved “ emblem on it is what I received and it is an improvement. Kinda glad I broke the first one.

Now you can see how crappy your barrel looks. MO MONEY!

I’ve got one of the first production units myself and picture quality has definitely deteriorated over the years. Mainly because the mirror has a multitude of tiny scratches. (don’t ask me how)
May have to spring for a new one myself.
Just out of curiosity, how did you destroy your monitor?

This is nuts, but it happened, I was tightening a barrel in my vise for removal and was so worried about the stock/scope I didn’t notice the end of the barrel was right on top of the monitor. As it tightened up apparently there was too much pressure on the monitor. Scrambled 2/3rd’s of the screen. Bottom 1/3rd was fine but of not much use. I now keep the monitor and the “scope” in a secure location. Live an learn. Maybe somebody else can learn from my oversight!

You are correct, but I am using it for cleaning as well as the target. I don’t know enough to determine whether a barrel is “a shooter” or not by the scope. I am not sure anybody is? I have some crappy looking ones that will and some that look awesome till you try to group with them, lol

photo option onto SD card:

New improved unit - captured image on SD card is 320x240 @ 96dpi & no compression:

How do you know you will get an "improved" borecam? The part number is the same. When I contacted Lyman a little while back, they said they didn't need to change the part number. They didn't give me any answer on how to identify a newer model from the original one I have. So I haven't risked buying another one that is exactly the same as the one I have now.

I know your concern. All I can say is I will pm you where I got this one. I will also post a pic of the box.

That's a good question - appears to be a commonly asked to on Brownell's site. They answer that they have the new improved version...which is where I got mine.

Did you just buy another bore scope???
Or just the monitor??

Good to know.

Lyman replaced my original screen when it quit. Lyman was good. Now there's a break in my wand wire. I can squeeze it at the spot in the wire and it may work if squeezed just right. Long out of warranty I just may get another if they are that much better.

I can send you my old wand, if it will help you out? I have no use for it now.

I have no idea. I tried contacting Lyman but the way I work they were never available when I was. Once I bought new I was afraid to try the old scope/wand and power supply with new monitor, not sure of compatibility and sure didn’t want to mess up the new one.
