Anschutz MPR questions

A few questions for some of the more experienced rimfire guys. I was shooting my Anschutz today and I seem to really be fighting my rest. Its a Caldwell BR but shortly after I got it, the bottom that does all the adjustments broke. Caldwell replaced it but it broke a second time. After breaking the second time, I built one from plate steel. Now, other than up and down, there is no adjustment. I put a sled on my stock so it rides the bag pretty good, but does it make a difference where the sled is located on the fore-end of the stock? Could this effect accuracy? I have been shooting BR targets that have 25 targets to shoot and seems my POI moves from one bulls-eye to the other. Scope is a Weaver 6x24 in Weaver rings and bases, (soon to be replaced), but the scope seems to be working correctly. Groups are always good, just not it the same place. I kinda feel the problem is in my rest and rear bag. It just seems I'm fighting them all the time. I can't lay all the blame on equipment as I'm an old dog learning new tricks so I'll have to take some of the blame. Its just the shift in the POI thats bugging me most. My rifle is bone stock from the factory, no mods at all. What should I torque the action screws to? I'm also considering a Harrells tuner in the future if it will help.

When you say groups are good but not in the same place, are you getting 2 groups with both being rather small? meaning nice small groups just not one small group. if this is happening the stock should be bedded. a friend's MPR did that, after it was bedded it now shoots one small group.
also moving from one bull to another isn't the same as shooting stationary groups, you have to account for conditions changing POI do you use flags?
the bench plate should be as far forward on the stock forearm.

also some rifles don't like to shoot down hill (pointing at a downward angle or with the rear of the stock higher than the front)

Anschutz are great rifles, but need some tlc........ is the barrelmfree floated? Are the action screws tourqed correctly? Is the trigger adjusted correctly? I have seen the 2 stage triggers do screwy things if ppl do not know how to properly adjust them)
Might want to head over to rimfire central those guys (and gals) know Anschutz rifles
What kinda ammo ?

My barrel is floated and the trigger breaks around 8 oz.

Groups have been 5 shots@50 yards. And usually just a ragged hole. The group just sometimes moves.

Ammo- Eley (cheaper stuff),Wolf, CCI Standard, SK....several others.CCI, Wolf and SK shot best.

Heck, it may be the shooter. Hoping it isn't but I can't rule that out.

I'm assuming when you say you put a "sled" on your MPR, it's what I call a rider plate, a 3" wide plalte attached to the forearm that fits/rides in the front rest. Yes it can affect how the gun shoots based on it's position on the forearm. Torque values can affect it as well.

If your groups(POI) are "moving" from bull to bull, then your set up is not quite complete, the rifle/rest/shooter are not consistent in some manner. A tuner will help with the groups, but you should find the ammo it likes/shoots best first, and get your entire setup sorted out so it it consistent.

Like I was saying,my front rest and rear bag seem to give me some problems. I think for better results I'm going to have to get my front rest working correctly. And a lot more practice.

We actually do shoot downhill if that makes a difference. Thats the way they set the club up when it was built.

How exactly do you move from bull to bull?
Move the bag on the mat?
Move the rifle on the bag?
Adjust the front rest?
You need to have the patience to adjust the equipment so you can 'peek' through the scope and see the reticle resting on the 10 ring without you. Then get on the rifle.
It's sooo tempting to just get on the rifle and muscle it onto the next bull.

Good groups in bad places could also be inconsistent eye position and imperfect parallax adjustment issues.

kzin-mostly muscle. All the adjustments on my rest went south and I replaced it with a steel plate. Its just a basic heavy azz rest now. Goes up and down. We are shooting BR50 targets that have 25 targets on each sheet. One shot at each bull unless I'm practicing then I shoot 5 shot groups. I sent an e-mail to Caldwell about getting a new top assembly but no response from them yet.

Check into a windage adjustable front rest top from Dan Greenlaw. Put one of these on a Rock BR rest and it was a big improvement. Set you back about $275 or so. A quality product and great guy to deal with. I think you can just Google D.R. Greenlaw Machine Co. to reach his site. I would advise that you make your changes to your setup one at a time. Otherwise, you are never quite sure what impact an individual change made. Could save some $$$ for you by not making changes that are unnecessary. Good luck!

Anschutz MPR stock has no bedding and is quite fussy of the screw torqe until you get it right it would often wander . Bedding one curred the wandering

At the Triple Crown, i over heard a couple of smiths discussing going back to Acraglass, having issues with Devcon..

Yeah, I’d guess the value of that is about, exactly, what you paid for it.
I’d wager the majority of CF smiths still use it, I just had a best of everything 6PPC put together with a glue into as good a stock as money can by......using Devcon.
My guess is that some of these guys probably had marginal results because they used old product.
Any two part adhesive has a limited shelf life. The more expensive it is the shorter the shelf life.
I have done a few guns with Loctite fixmaster and the stuff is toxic, now runs about $150 for a few ounces, and I believe has a working life of something on the order of 6 months. I don’t think I would use Devcon approaching a year.

A few years back there was a bad lot of 10110 it took forever to cure and sometimes it just didn't
I found out after I threw it out it was a bad lot
not sure what it was that made it bad

Yep, I suppose everybody has a screw up butI suspect you'd agree, by and large a pretty reliable epixy.

So what is the torque value for an un-bedded stock?
This is something you have to experiment with, but make sure the stock inletting is good what I mean by this is that the action sits in the stock completely. I bedded a MPR a few months back because the rear action screw never seem to snug up and seated, after checking it was discovered that the rear tang area barely touched the stock so the action never seated in the stock
