22BR wildcat options

Thank MTSLW, what barrel are you using and length? Have you dine any Quickload calibrations and would you mind sharing the H2O case volume if you have measured it?
I don't have access to quickloads but H20 for 3 cases was between 39.04-39.12. 26" X-caliber barrel, They're local so I picked up a straight blank to fireform and see how I like it. Going to try some 4350 and RL16 next week and see how she does.

Been playing around with some cases and stumbled onto the 6x47 Swiss Match. Firstly is there a reason why the guys don't use this in PRS? Playing around in CAD this is how a 22x47 Lapua, 22 BR and 22 BRA would compare to the 22x47SM.

Because it a essentially a 6XC. Which is a 6x48.

In a word: brass.

Evan, I assume its the availability of the brass and not the quality? urbanrifleman if its the case of being similar to the XC, well then the 6mm GT is perhaps in trouble given that its closer to the XC.

After shooting Tubb's 6xc I would say just shoot the 6XC. In fact, shoot it EAXCTLY like Tubb. Peterson small rifle brass, Rem primers.

Yeah. Brass is not as readily available.

I believe the XC is on the other side of the 6x47L from the Swiss match and the new 6GT and the 6 Swiss are very similar. The Swiss has a grain or two more powder, but a grain or two less than the 6x47L.

6 Creedmoor (44gns)> 6XC(42gns) > 6x47L (40gns)> 6 Swiss(38gns) > 6 GT (36gns) > 6 Dasher (34gns)

EDIT: I wanted to add that I think the Swiss Match is the best design if you want more than a Dasher, but it's just not well supported in the US. The website has a drawing of it, for those that don't know:

Thanks Evan. Very insightful. Been reading of a few guys that form SM brass from 6.5x47 Lapua brass. Would assume that its very similar to forming SLR brass? Think I’m heading towards a dasher or brx with a longer neck.

I'm looking at option to push a 80gr ELD M .224 bullet at around 3100-3300 fps out of a 26-28" barrel. I did this out out of my 22-250 AI with ease and my load just averaged over 3200fps with N160 with pressure around 47kpsi.

Is a 22-250 AI still the logical option or will a 22br, 22bra, 22brx or 22dasher be a more logical option, especially considering barrel life and accuracy. Any other 22 that is perhaps worth considering?

Also, can some please assist with the case volumes for 22bra, 22brx and 22 Dasher?

Cheers
we just put together a 22 creedmoor and with a 80gr berger got

we put a 22 creedmoor together and it is a dream come true! 26in brux barrel and with a 80gr berger have a load that is doing 3575fps. it is a shooting fool and we are having a ball shooting it!

I shoot more than enough to keep me happy and I have never wore out a barrel. Of course, I'm happy shooting 150 rounds a year out of any of my rifles.

It is quality brass, but as previously mentioned obtaining it here in the U.S. is challenging. In addition, the case uses a large rifle primer vs. small.

That, in itself, should give great pause for thought.
Re Swiss Match. In the arena of this thread, we will want all the web strength we can get, regardless - and especially so if we have to get there from a "parent case".

Maxscm, my challenge with 22CM is barrel life. Very impressive numbers, but would assume they come at a cost.
Sure.
Barrels come and go at a cost.
So do the Tires on my truck.
I buy Michelin Tires, Kreiger Barrels.
And Enjoy Both of them!

HAHA. Well yeah. You can choose any hotrod cartridge you want with that shooting habit!

I burn 100rnds a weekend, and go pretty much every weekend. That's 5000rnds a year. I'm burning out barrels and have to figure that into my cost when choosing to adopt a cartridge. That's why my "main" gun that I shoot the most is a 20 Vartarg out to 300 yards or so.

Been playing around with the idea of SLR’ing the 6.5x47 Lapua case with the small primer pocket in mind.

I’m also going to shoot this rifle a lot and want to set it up for my son as well and don’t want to switch barrel after barrel.

If been reading about the 22 BRDX as well and the guys mentioned that this cartridge gives very short barrel live that compares to the 22-250? Specific reason why?

For the time being and really searching around there isn’t really something between the dasher and the 22x47SM.

I think something with a powder column between the dasher and SM, 30-35* shoulder and BR neck would be a very interesting 224 cartridge.

Barrel life seems to be a bit complicated and appears to be a combination of these items from my experience and research: shooting speed, amount of powder, pressure level of load, twist of barrel, heat of combustion of the powder (different from burn rate), and MAYBE length of neck.

So a BRX loaded to 70ksi, shooting 115s at 3k fps can have a shorter barrel life than a 6mm Rem loaded to 50ksi, shooting the same 115s at 3k, simply due to the increased case pressure and use of a "hotter" powder over a cooler one ( think H4350 vs H1000).
