Time to get out of Dodge, Part II

My thread of a few months ago, is now ready to be updated. Colorado is not yet in the rear view mirror, but it is getting closer fast. I am sure many thought I was just all talk, and would never make the move.
But, I have a contract on the house. Closing is later this summer. I have pulled down all my big game mounts, have my books and furs boxed up. Painters are coming next week to repaint most of the inside of the house, I have just a few more small things to fix on the house before it is no longer mine. My employer / friends have decided to pull up stakes too, we are all getting out. Currently I do not have a place to move to, but I have most of the summer to find one.
I have been selling off tons of stuff, throwing tons of stuff away, giving stuff away, and shortly I will be down to only the stuff that matters.

Nearly everyday I am reminded of why I want to leave Colorado. I just bought a new to me car, a 1996 4Runner. A $2500 car cost me $216 to register! They actually have an extra fee for cars over a certain age!

I remember some time ago fellow employees from the Loveland/Ft. Collins area talking about local fees to register vehicles. I guess they weren't chittin.

It's time for all of us to start doin a lot of evangelizing. I've got a hunch that in a few years, there's gonna be a lot of lost millennials looking for direction. They're gonna need us to show them "the way". jd
Nearly 50 percent of millennials are identifying as atheist or agnostic( another fun fact from church today), quite sad.

This is your county (and possibly state) tax for a new vehicle. You can blame this BS on Governor Owens (R). You can also look at TABOR; since they cannot implement or raise a tax in CO without voter approval, everything has become a "fee".

Colorado: Wyomings Mexico.
Lol, because y'all come down here to party? Fort Collins and Loveland are overrun with Wyoming plate cars, all commuting to and from work or shopping.

I'm just tired of the traffic and developments. It's breaking my heart to watch all the beautiful farm land covered with cookie cutter crap houses packed in as tight as the law allows. The developers don't pay to expand the infrastructure, so suddenly entire neighborhoods worth of cars are funneling down 2 lane county roads into Denver and Boulder.

Edit: Sound like my grandpa talking about all the orange farms disappearing in the Los Angeles valley...

I'm thinking Alaska. Too cold and extreme for most.

'There are lies, damnable lies, and statistics.' - Samuel Clemmens

I'm sympathetic to Mark Twain's view, stated above.

Anyway, my family made the move from NY state (firmly in communist hands for generations) to TX and it's been a great move in so many different ways. Yeah, there's the 'hot 'n humid' with which to deal, but I've never had to plow the driveway when it's 95 outside.

We love East TX. Fishing's outstanding, lots of places to shoot, lots of outstanding shooters, great people, kids are mannerly (!), cost of living is low - all good stuff. Oh, and the exercise of one's faith is considered a good and proper thing.

PS. I lived in Colorado for a few years in the 90s and I loved it. I'm deeply saddened by the changes over the last twenty years or so.

This is the case for many of us in Oregon and most of the western states.

The one blessing we've got is tons of BLM and State and Federal forest lands with public access. But even they are becoming more strictly regulated as far as motor vehicle use and shooting are concerned.

My lifetime spans a period when we were truly the wild west, with unrestrained use for anyone with a horse, jeep, bike, or long legs. Now much of this public land is regulated, restricted, or managed to prevent activities which were once common. Sadly my own "Sportsmen" have often been to blame for losing access rights to much of this land. jd

and the grass is always greener over the septic tank.

Not in my yard. Last 2 houses I've owned since being built, could NOT get grass to grow directly over the septic tank.o_O

I live in rural E TN, and now I complain about traffic in our area. If I'm 6th in line at a traffic light, I complain about the traffic. We have several residential developments within 15 miles of us (on or near TVA lakes) that numerous "northerner's" have moved down here to help us do things the right way, like they did back home. :(

Don’t move to Michigan thinking it will be better here. Car registration cost is on value of the car when new. It never goes down And if it’s a heavier SUV, weight will cost you. The Imperial Governor wants to raise the tax on gasoline another whopping .42 per gallons to pay for the roads when the taxes were already higher than most states. One problem is that funds that were supposed to fix our crumbling roads have gone to libraries among other things. I guess that’s so we’ll be able to interpret road signs. So, don’t move to Michigan.
I’m glad I got that off my chest.

There is always plenty of money for public employees retirement systems. The infrastructures can rot. no big deal just raise taxes.

It's due to the shear number of people. 10 people driving jeeps across a field isn't a problem. 1000 people doing it is. Sad fact is that the more of us there are, the less freedom we have because of the limited resources available.

I can't go hiking in the mountains without finding trash left on the trail, or a nicely bagged dog turd that some "helpful" owner probably thought would be collected by someone. Surely they aren't required to pack out their dog's waste. All this means more laws, more restrictions. It's for the best, lest the 100s of thousands of people who "visit" the mountains turn it them massive piles of trash and turds.

Good job market by Minot, ND. And I just happen to have 8 acres with rural water and electricity for 79,000 15 minutes from there. Uncle has a nice modular home to be moved that he is going to be asking around 30,000. So there you go, you can thank me when your all moved in. Lol

I have a 2018 4 Runner and you'd choke if I mentioned the registration fee's in AZ, wink. BTW there is effective in 2019 a new highway repair upcharge of $35 on top of a $10 inconvenience fee for paying locally in cash. All this was more than my car payment.

What's your budget? Do you want to live in the sticks? Acreage? What attitude? Lets get some details.

Just pay the damn taxes,or VOTE the rascals out,or leave. But what are you going to do when the other NEW place does the same thing? It can happen,it will happen. To many say one
thing and do the other,I've seen it before, think, you have also. What did you say,I'm going to quit, your FRIEND said I will to,he's still there, your not,so much "El Toro Caca".
If you disagree, I'm good with that,we're still friends,I think.

Wow, the idiots were voted in because of a shift, or an influx of some kind. I think the days of "the silent majority" are gone. And the rate this shift is occurring in certain areas, there is no reversing it.
I partially read through something this morning in a money section, millennials are not saving for retirement because they think we will be extinct from global warming in their life time. Hell yeah, change their minds.

Alaska does have four seasons: June, July, August and winter! :)
To get to good hunting think river boat or Super Cub.
