So I did the AR thing

This is my first ar. Last time I used one it was an m16 in the late 70s. So I thought I'd assemble one to get familiar. I bought a lower from my LGS all the rest is straight up AR Stoner stuff from Midway. Scope is a Vortex Strike Eagle 1x6 and the mount was free with it. I used a file, stone and dremel on the trigger and it still WAY SUCKS! Scope has a 556 BDC reticle with hashes to 600 LOL! I bought a box of 120 556 ball ammo and did the shoot one, clean one routine. Used a bunch of jb and a lot of elbow grease. Do you think I ever stopped fouling. NOT! Next I bought the Redding f/l two die set, 53 vmax, horn brass, cci br4 and Varget. Can't say I did a lot of load development. I haven't had it beyond 100 but excited to use that 600 hash on 6 power. LOL. Got about 200 rounds through it with zero malfunctions and it seems to do 3/4 to 1 moa. Which is better than I expected. Here's a couple 100 yard groups. Zombies beware!

Geissele is the best thing that you could have as a trigger in your AR. It is a two stage style, which I prefer due to my having learned on the M-14. There are a few choices from the basic to the match. I use the SSA in most of my lowers, but the G2S is the most basic and can be had for around $130. Trigger pull weight is consistently 4.5# and exceptionally crisp. For a decent bullet/powder combo, a 52 gr Match bullet from most any decent bullet maker and H335 will usually result in MOA in most AR's, at least it has in mine.

Funny though. 4 pounds seems so way heavy when your used to 1/2 and under. What weight are the 3 gun guys using?

Check out a HyperFire 24 or 24c trigger nothing beats them in my book. JoeBobs is the best place to find one.

TriggerTech just came out with a 'Diamond' for the AR10/15. They'll adjust down to 1lb per the tests I've seen. They're not cheap though.

I've got several others, and typically the lightest you'll get out of most is ~3lbs. It's quite the adjustment when you transition off 4oz bolt gun triggers.

Matter of fact, this week I've been playing with an AR10, and that 4lb Larue trigger takes some getting used to.

That said, 1MOA out of an AR isn't bad at all; especially when you're shooting a 1-6 power. The best I can consistently manage out of my accuracy oriented AR15 with a 32x scope is ~.7 over a 25rd group, and that's doing F-Class level reloading work.

Good luck with yours. I think I like building them and the idea of shooting them more than I actually enjoy shooting them. ;)

I've never had any luck with ball powder. In the summer it's over 100 degrees by 10am. Blew many primers with h414 in my 243. Scary stuff. Wish I could as it meters so well.

don't doubt an AR at 600. I started Service Rifle competition with a M1A. Always ran the 168 match bullets. When I switched to the AR running Sierra 80 grainers at 600 my scores went up. hated to admit it but I really liked it when I started winning. Ran 69's at 200 and 300 for mag length loads.

Exactly what I did IRT 80 gr SMK's at 600 and 69 gr SMK's at 200 and 300. I never realized ho much recoil wears you out as you get more "mature", to put it politely. Can't say that I won much, but my scores definitely improved.

It was a looong time before I warmed to an AR15.. I had enough in Nam.. In early 2000's a friend had one and I shot it. FUN! So I bought one, then another. Both have after market triggers. Tac seems to work well in one of mine and H335 in the other.

I'm pretty sure that you won't have problems with either H335 or BLC-2. H335 is essentially the same as WC844 which is what .mil used in M193 ball, and BLC-2 is H335 without the flash suppressant additives. I used mine in FL when I lived there and never had a problem. However, Varget is one of the Extreme powders by Hodgdon, and is an excellent powder. It just meters poorly, which if you are a high volume handloader can be frustrating at times.

I don't know, as I don't shoot 3 gun. But the Geissele has a 2.5# first stage, and a 2# break. It also has a short, positive, reset that is advantageous in rapid fire of any sort.

I don't expect to win any matches with this $300 1x6 power scope.

Personally, I think the Geissele is overpriced. I have a couple AR-10's, 260 and 308; and 3 Gun HiperFires were the first thing I changed to from the stock 5-stage 9 pound gritty pull issue triggers. I have been a single stage trigger man since I got out of the Army in 1971. Muscle memory is one of the keys to better accuracy. My AR triggers are all set at 2 pounds, and I have had no issues.

Who cares about anything other than a mil-spec drop in parts kit trigger- go out and bumpfire multiple mags thru it using your belt loop just to show the elected idiots you dont need a bump stock to do it.

I am using two different triggers on two different AR's, one an Elftmann drop-in and one a CMC drop in. Both "match" 2.5lb. If I could only choose one it would be the Eltmann because there is very little travel after the break and should I want to I can adjust it up to 5lbs ( but why?). Both cost $150 - $175 and drop in easily. Both break as advertised using a trigger gauge.
Before I tried drop-ins I tried stoning stock and replacing springs but never did get the feel I was after. The stockers are now collecting dust with some Rem700 triggers for company.
