Advice needed 222 rem 1-12 twist

My .222 with a McGowan 1:12 barrel shoots 55 grain Berger target and Berger 55 grain varmint bullets with superb accuracy. I use Vihtavouri N133 propellant.

I have an older Rem 700 in 222, 1 in 14 twist. It eats up 40g bullets with Benchmark, 50g with 4198, although I pretty much stick to 40 v-max, and if I want to shoot 50-60g I switch to a 22-250 (in 1-12 twist)

Got a combination that works. Why change? Like others have stated, check your twist rate. My 1 in 14 Hart barrel in 222 does quite well with flat based 53 grain Sierra Match bullets. Once I find a load I am happy with, I like to stick with it. Although like most of the rest of us, I am constantly looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

By all means take the multiple suggestions of verifying your twist. That is the easiest, simplest and cheapest way to remove or confirm a variable.
Have you bore scoped it? I had a bbl from a top name that would NOT indicate, in the hands of a very experienced, anal smith. Upon inspection and I have no earthly retired toolmaker idea how, it looked like the bore had been cut w a few extra starting points.
Things can get mislabeled, put in wrong stack, on wrong cart or rack...... just sayin'

My .222 was built in the mid 60's on a seiko (sp) action with a Hart 24" lite barrell 1-14 twist. It shoots 53 gr Sierra FBHP
bullets amazingly well to 300 yards and more. I made up a load with 53 gr vmax which shoots equally well for squirrels and such
because i like the red mist :) both loads are with H322.

Just to touch base with everyone i bedded the action with devcon put a good torque on the action screws out of a fluke from elders loading notes of the 222rem I loaded 10total 5 53grn SMK and 5 60grn amaxes with 22.6 grns of 3031 the 53s shot .457 and the 60s .553 IM HAPPY this weekend I will run them over the labradar and let u all now the velocity

Good deal. I bought a Tikka .222 Rem lightly used from a fellow "here" and had really good luck w 52g Berger HP varmint, and oddly enough, w CFE 223 powder.
fwiw. Good info & post some pix if you have a moment.
