Will wind flags help me at 300 yards

I shoot over 5 if I am shooting rimfire, and at times, that's not enough, but I'll be honest, I can't really assess more than that much data unless it is just "Hey, they are all the same vector! Shoot!"

In centerfire, 3 has been enough, but I might start using more.

I like these, for general purpose: https://www.killoughshootingsports.com/index.php/wind-flags/sail-tails-pack-of-5.html

Remember these: 5%, 15%, 25%, 50%, 75%. That's about how far from the muzzle downrange that I want flags, unless it is predicted to be a headwind.

I use a 5ft piece of #3 rebar with couple pieces of surveyors tape. Tape has a 12-16inch tail. One piece at the top (5ft) and one piece 2/3rds down (3ft). I put one at 10 yrds, one at 50yds, and then one that splits the remaining distance to the target (~125yards in your 300yd case).

Try to line them up so you can see the 50 and 125 ones in your scope and the closest one with your free eye when you're not focused looking through the scope. In other words, all need to be visible without breaking your shooting position.

Try to use one until you learn it then add another. Start out close
I do have one that I carry with me always but never really know where to put it to start with, close to the target (300yds) or half way? Biggest problem for me is that the wind always seems to be blowing different directions all the way down there, in my face at the bench, down 100yds its 45 degrees right to left and at the target its 90 degrees left to right,... damn wind... grrrr

the closer the wind the more effect it has on it. if I only had one flag to put out it would be less than 15yds out. the swirling wind at the benches actually affects the bullet too so don't count it out as a nuisance. no cartridge/ bullet combo is immune from the wind from a 17hm2 to a 20mm Vulcan.

That makes since, the wind close pushing the bullet a tiny amount up close will be a large amount farther out. The bad part for me is at our range we have a huge creek running right to left 10 yards out from the benches. We actually have a bridge to get to the 300yd line.
