That's a totally my dream car, cept the color.
I use to rock a AMC pacer with gold fish stickers on the windows.

A 66 SS was and still is my dream car. I didn't intend on buying a yellow one when I started looking, but when I first saw it ,my old heart skipped a beat. Most guys in the know think it's butternut yellow, but it's actually lemonwood yellow which is the factory color for this car. Little lighter, and grew on me fast. A good friend liked it so much he ran out ( in his 60's mind you ) and bought a 70 nova and promptly had it painted butternut. lol

I had a 71 chevelle that I painted when I was younger. Dark blue metalic with a coat of red pearl.
Sold the paint job for way to cheap, gave the car away and bought a 72 vw bus westie tin top.

That 70 of my uncles was built had about 500hp, ladder bars, .456 gears, 3k stall when i ran it. Was full original interior and not a drop of bondo. Before he passed and after we quit racing it he had it repainted in a original silver, he didnt like the hugger orange that was oem for the car, and put 370 gears in it. Was always way to nice to be on the strip, it was a original 425hp car and numbers matching.

Are you all distracting the OP with car talk.. Because there will be a weather delay.. Just saying the wind is 35 mph and snowing at my place....

20190428_203335.jpg my ride 89 lx. Owned it since Jun 98. Currently sporting a in the white fiberglass hood to clear my intake.
347 car with all the goodies. Sadly I broke it's heart last September, I think I split the block. I also have a 61 f100 unibody shortbed thst is currently a basket case. It has not seen the road legally since 2000.
Every hobby woth doing is just to dam expensive.

Was always a car guy. Started in sprints and midgets, built my uncle and grandfather, at 14, began packing the track and then hot laps at 12. Budding career ended with an eye injury in gym class. First car was a 69 Camaro SS with a 427 L88 with aluminum heads. Bought a 70 LT1 corvette, and had people begging me to sell it to them. My last a favorite car was a 70 1/2 Z-28 Camaro, sold it to buy a house. Ran it in a parade lap and my brother in law got out and threw up, that was the good old days. In my 30's, I built a very hot yet streetable 1200 HD Sportster that ran 11.80 in the quarter mile at 125 through the trap, sold it to buy my son a trap gun. I feel very lucky to have owned these cars. My only regret is watching Barret Jackson. Shooting and handloading and striving to be my very best nicely fills the need for speed.

Bill Jenkins and Dave Strickler made them run! :)

And don't forget Hayden Profitt. He was the only guy to win 4 National titles with a car from all major car makers back then. He even won a National title with a mo-par. The first full year in production of the 409 was 1962. Hayden piloted one at the Winternationals and was a winner in 4 classes. He also was the National Stock Eliminator Champion in 62.

I had the pleasure of meeting him at the National 409 Convention at Great Bend, Ks in 2014.

Later
Dave

PS, one of those Truck Motors just dynoed 900+ Hp and 750+ Tq the other day.

It drives me nut waiting for deliveries, I track the shipments looking for the date to improve, which it does sometimes. We don't get packages at our residence, so they have to be delivered to the USPS. Since UPS and FedEx won't deliver to a PO Box, we have packages sent to the Post Offices Address and then add our box number to it. If the PO receives a box on Monday, they won't have sorted and put it out until Tuesday or Wednesday. It has taken them up to 4 days to do this. Drives me nuts.

As for cars, was heavily into them. I had a 70 Javelin that while I was going to Oregon Tech, we blueprinted and balanced the engine. The 304cc engine put out 500hp on the dyno. Top end was 167mph on open road. Loved that car.

Favorite car and it is hard to narrow it down as i love so many, is the 70 Chevelle SS with the 396.

Unfortunately, I am approaching retirement and all my spare money that doesn't go toward shooting goes towards retirement. Except for an occasional WWII gun or an accessory for my M1 Garand that I find that isn't too expensive.

I hope we don't catch the anger of the forums boss, i sure didn't mean for this to get away from us.
By the way those porkypine motors did run, you just had to think outside the box.

If you read my earlier post, where I droned on about my all to short racing career and the hot cars I owned, here is the rest of the story. At 17 my wife and I started dating. I drove my Dad's 65 Chrysler, so it was not for her great taste in automobiles. While the cars are gone, I am still married to my wife and we still have the same house. We were blessed with 2 sons and 3 wonderful grand daughters. Had a great time with my cars, but would not trade them for my life today. My wife was a blued eyed blond high school cheerleader and is just as beautiful to me today at 61. With out her I would probably have become a bum.

In 1967 I ordered a white 396 SS Chevelle. My salesman called and said we just unloaded a new yellow SS car, do you want to come look. Being a first time new car buyer I was impatient and bought it rather than wait on the one I ordered. In a short time I hated the color, wishing I had waited for the ordered car. I learned a lesson, and to this day I dont want a substitute in place of my original want. LDS

Waiting for powder... still a car guy.
