Wind flags

Anyone know a supplier of this style of wind flag in the US?

Seems simple, effective, easily transported and inexpensive.

I wonder if the length of the offset for the level bracket is also according to the governing body’s rules. I can see the strengths in this device. It’s just for 50 and 100 meter ranges so it should be visible enough. The tail material is heavier than the standard tails over here.

These rigs (3ea.) have worked very well for me over the years. From our friend Russ Haydon in Gig Harbor, WA.

They pivot on Delrin bearings, fold flat for transport. I had a bag set made for them from 1200 denier Cordura back around 1995, been using them ever since.

I'm after something that I can plonk down at my local range. These seemed convenient in that they come with the stake/pole and would seem easily transportable. I've looked at various other options but for most you have to buy stands and before you know it you've spent quite a lot of money. I'm not a benchrest shooter but would like a better sense if what the wind is doing during load development etc.

A strip of “tail” attached to a pole doesn’t help much in reading the wind.

Anything will work but a blade will be more sensitive to real time and direction

A tail alone will indicate a left/right condition, but a headwind/tailwind component and its angle will be difficult to determine depending on your view of the flag.

ISSF rules dictate flag construction for formal international shooting competitions. NRA does as well. But for range and practice use I purchased some fiberglass driveway markers from Home Depot, and bundle of surveyor wire flags with the orange and two rolls of surveyor tape, orange and green. I drilled a hole in the top of each driveway marker, bent the surveyor wires 90 degrees and stapled the green and orange tape to each orange flag. I made them different lengths to kind of get an indicator of different wind velocity. This works pretty good for smallbore out to 100 yards, which is what I shoot mostly. Accurately reading wind is almost an art form and the really good shooters use all the indicators available to them. Mirage is the most accurate and timely indicator.
